The throttle cable has come un-hooked from the linkage a couple of times on my truck. Thank goodness it hasn't happened in a situation where the loss of power put me in a dangerous situation, but I need to get this fixed. Am I missing something or do I need to replace the whole cable to get the little end tight again?

Need your truck info

Rick;

Your truck must be a 12 valve, is this right? [posted in 12 valve forum]. we need your truck profile to offer any suggestions. So I'll ask questions any way. Are you the original owner? has the #970 recall been done? This recall was to address this problem when it first started to become a problem of coming apart. If you are not the Original owner, there is a web site connected with Dodge that you can see if that recall was performed. [do a search on this, or maybe someone will chime in. ] You will need your vin #. If not call a dealer and see if you could get it done. One part of the recall done the Cable, because it frayd and would bind the throttle return to idle. The other repair replaced the ball and sockets on the linkage from the plastic to the metal ones.

Marv,

It is a 1995 4X4 3500 DRW. 157,000 Miles. I have only owned it 2 years. I am not sure if the recall were done, but I think the ball and socket are metal, but i will check. I will try and find the web site about the recall.

Thanks,

Rick

I had the same problem and the recall for the throttle linkage wasn't for my truck. As a "temporary" fix I drilled a couple small holes in the end of the plastic connector and inserted some . 010 stainless steel wire thru them and around the steel ball of the linkage. About 50,000 miles later I bought a new cable. :-laf

Here is what they say at Fritzz's site about your throttle cable deal.....

Ram Throttle cable replacement

Call the dealership with your vin number and they will be able to tell you if yours has had it done as the 95's were in that recall. Hope that helps... ... . Andy

P. S. -My old 95 2wd had the cable replaced so many times before the sheath covered cables come out I carried a spare and still have it today hanging in the garage.
