I had an incident last month where the linkage at the ball socket dropped off the back if the injector pump quadrant. LOOOOse ball socket, it left me stranded until I riged up a string to the injector pump quadrant, around the intake plenum under the hood and back to the drivers window, (hand throttle).

I guess its not to bad for a 10yr old Dog, but one that had me thinking there must be something better than the DC stuff.

After as search on the net I cam across midwestcontrols.com they have an awesome website for ball joints turnbuckles etc.

The 1st Pic: the quadrant ready to go into the truck pre assembeled.

Sorry for the clarity of these pic’s as my regular camera is on recall by Canon (major problem with the CCD).

Note the pics are out of sequence????

The 2nd pic this shows the throttle lever taken from the side of the injector pump. The arrow shows where I am starting to drill out the stud that held the ball socket.

I drilled this with a pilot hole first then a ¼” drill to finish, this is the original size of the hole. I used a ¼” x 1-1/4”long bolt at this end with the head of the bolt on this side to clear the TPS.

The 3rd pic is the new & the old, the new one is much beefier and is held on with ¼” bolts.

Yep the old DC just cant stand up to my right foot!!!

& #4 is the drawing I made of the parts & parts List for this fix.

Note item 2 will have to be bent to the correct shape. The offset is about 1-1/4”

It works like a charm no more slop and while it was off the truck I slotted the holes for the TPS and cranked it over aprox’ 10 deg , now I have my cruise back + is seems to shift better between 3-4. It is a lot easier to adjust and tighten when it’s off the truck. I was lucky everything went back together all pre-assembled with a little manipulation of the radiator hose, I took every thing out piece by piece.

Well the pics are in but not where i wanted them.

Sweet fix

WOW!

Very nice fix!

It sure beats my shoelace fix!

Yep... .

Drove back and forth to work for a week with nothing more than a shoelace tied between the linkage balls.

It only fell off 3 times. :D

I ended up making my own linage too.

Only mine still uses the crummy balls... .

Next time I'm going with your setup. .

Apparantly you didn't have the recall for the linkage done. I broke 3 rods in 120k before the recall fix, none since.

As i am the 3rd owner of this truck and totaly OUT of any DC waranty, I dont figure letting any DC tech near my truck, most of the techs here dont know what a CTD is>

Recall

I actually did have the recall done (stronger balls?) I think.

The rod has an adjustment.

There is 1/8 more throttle available if you tighten up your (throttle) rod.

Problem is if you tighten your (throttle) rod too much it will cause the whimpy all thread to bend and break.

I want "Full" throttle! Oo.

Soooo.

I paid the price and had to beef up my (throttle) rod to make it stronger.

My recall replaced balls have been holding up well.

Upon re reading this post I may have to re-write it?

Bottom line. .

There's nothing like having a well adjusted and strong (throttle) rod.

Happy New Year!

Somebody knows how to use AutoCAD; nice drawing.

Anyway I had to purchace a new throttle arm for my Dakota and it is the new updated part and it is awesome.

clarification on offset

I noticed a dimension missing from the dwg I did.

Its the offset between the shafts which is 1. 25"

The hex bar length to the first bend is approx 3. 00"

The length for the other side of the bar is approx 3. 50"

Hope this helps guys.

After ordering and installing a new rod complete (less the balls$35) from the local dodge dealer I found the throttle linkage bulletin. Next time I was in the dealer I told the parts guy. He looked it up and said my truck had not been done and that any time I wanted to call and schedule it and it would be done free of charge.
