A negative view on stacking
Adam,
Stacking refers to combining electronic performance modules, or boxes, for high levels of engine output. This is a hot rod trick.
A popular 'stack' is a timing box with a fueling box, i. e. an Edge Products EZ (famous for it's low rpm torque boost through an aggressive advance in diesel ignition timing) with a TST Products PowerMax fueling box. The TST box is famous for it's ability to give the VP-44 injection pump copious amounts of fuel ONLY, no timing.
These two products together perform as if they were manufactured together, instead of in Utah and southern Indiana. Horsepower and torque are DRAMATICALLY increased and come on hard and EARLY in the powerband. This is the Edge timing box. It will give you off idle smoke and fuel in the low to mid rpm range. The timing will spool your turbo sooner and the rear tires will break loose as you build boost sooner than a stock rig will. Behind your bumper you will notice a giant cloud of soot like a big rig leaving a light. A grin will light up your face as you approach 1700 to 1800 rpm... ...
... ... and then your fueling box begins to dominate the fcm on your VP-44 fuel injection pump, it will piggyback a SECOND fuel pulse signal on the ECMs original injection solenoid signal and hold it closed a bit longer to cram even more diesel into an already hot and burning combustion chamber.
Now you are in the upper rpm band and your transmission is in overdrive and you are approaching 100 mph, 38 psi and 1400 EGTs and you gotta back out of it, or you will turn your pistons into a liquid but MAN! THAT WAS FUUUNNN!!
WASN'T IT??!!
Or was it? While you were having your little joy ride, you broke two teeth off your ring gear and cracked your spiders, twisted your input shaft on your transmission, your clutch wont hold anymore and you boosted your turbo out of it's mapwidth and the backpressure your boxes made actually pushed your headgasket OUT from under the head!
And you still gotta make payments on this bad boy.
