No question about it, Michelins are the best tires for ordinary use period. Yes, there are specialty mud and snow tires that offer better traction.



Bridgestone makes excellent car tires.

TireRack.com has sales sometimes on Michelins. Last time I checked, there was a $70 discount for buying 4. In the size I was looking at, that boiled down to less than $200/ tire, delivered to my door.
 
I did the same thing as MWILSON, LTX A/S (E-rated) came on the truck as OEMs and replaced with same as I don't go mudding and the truck is not a daily driver but boy, do those tires wear like iron. Had 60k on first set but was towing my travel trailer across the country, tread was fine (probably 40%) but showing some small cracks on the sidewalls so changed them out anyway. I think the M/S2s are better in the wet and snow but, not seeing daily use and basically used for highway work, I went with the known entity. The A/S is certainly not a cheap or inferior tire in any way.
