same here, I got 60,000 miles aout of the OEM mitchlens. Had about 20,000 miles left but purchased a new set since the old tires were showing signs of cracking. Towed a 10,000 lb travel trailer for about 35,000 of the 60,000.
The Dynapro ATm RF10 look really nice. I'll be watching the reviews. I hope they prove themselves well. Another one that seems nice is the Good Year Wrangler Silent Armor (with kevlar)- supposed to be a really nice tire. a friend of mine has it on a full size truck and really likes it.

So you are not buying something made in China you could buy Michelin. The one most important thing to look at is the DATE of Manufacture. It is a Federal mandate that it be on every tire. It is 2 numbers and then 2 more (13 10) 13th week of the year 2010. Tires begin their deterioration process the day they are manufactured. 6 years is the maximum you can expect from a passenger car or truck tire. The 7th year is when they fly apart on the highway. Some dealers will tell you the date means nothing and say "this is a new tire it's never been on the ground". ST Tires (trailer tires) are a whole different issue. They are manufactured to loose 1/3 of their strength in 3 years. By the time they get here from China and spend time on the Dealers rack they could be a year old when you buy them. I learned all this the hard way. i use Michelin PU Truck tires on my trailer. Dealers will not instal anything except a ST Tire on a trailer. They argue they are special built. Truth is they are built to make the tire industry more money. They know the tread never wears out in average use so they use special chemicals to make them not last. That is why I call them Scam Tires. My tire Dealer has had so much trouble with ST Tires on his Boat Trailer he uses PU Truck tires. AS long as the weight rating on the side-wall is more than the weight you are carrying you have nothing to worry about.
Well, I told you guys I'd let you know how the Hankook ATMs are holding up. They're holding up great, hopefully in the back of some semi on the way back to Hankook. My set was junk. Out of the four at least two required tons of weight to balance, and they still wouldn't balance. One was exchanged (the one that was calling for 7 ounces). It helped but didn't take the wobbles away. They were just plain out of round. They're gone, replaced with the set of Nitto Dura Grapplers I first had in mind. Chalk it up to a lesson learned. Hopefully Hankook will get the issues sorted out with this tire. I did find some threads on the net dealing with this exact tire that others were having an out of round problem, at least two of them were on the cummins forum, and were both somewhat recent threads. Could've been a bad batch from Hankook, who knows. Either way, maybe someday I'll try them again. Now I'll have to find a set of AT or MT for my extra wheels... Craigslist...
But the 285/70-17 10ply Nittos are round and smooth. Very stiff sidewall (compared to the Hankook). They ride like the stock Michelin, just a little bigger.
You have to remember, you saw the original post on the towing forum. These trucks burn up rear tires if you tow heavily. I have 225,000 on my truck, about 80,000 towing a 15,000 dump trailer. I have used BFG, Goodyear, Nitto, and Cooper. I never get more than 30,000 miles on a set of rears, but get 50,000 on the fronts.
A good friend of mine and a TDR member from Ontario, Canada will be installing his 2nd set of Toyo M55 commercial duty tires in the fall. He's got 72K miles on his 1st set with about 5K miles to go. He's a hunter and goes off road a good amount. He also drives the Dempster Highway in the Yukon, which is full of rocks. He also said that they give excellent winter traction to boot.
If you want to get in touch with him, send me a PM.
Just adding my 2 cents. i just got new BFG AT KO's got 78,000 out of the last set. No complaints here. 285/75R 16 Too bad I can't get that kind of mileage out of my front end parts. #@$%!
My new nittos' came in this week but am unabled to put them on yet as they are at home and I am in Houston with my wife (coma, heart problems). I know I've got over 60,000 on the pro-comps now and they are slicker than snot on a hot tin roof. Will try to add a post when they are on and able to.
I had good luck with Cooper Discoverys had over 65,000 on them when my front end screwed them up. My only complant was they got a bit slip ish in the rain but gave me the best Mpg. I'm running Procomps they are not lasting at all... .
Have 80K on set of BFGoodrich long trail. Intermit towing, about 30 K with travel trailers, 20 K with farm eqpt, and 5 K with hay trailer. 25 K not pulling anything at all. Secret is rotation, rotation, rotation and watch the air pressure. I run 60 front and 55 rear normally.
I liked the Nitto Terra Grapplers for the good traction, but that good traction is due to a softer compound that doesn't last as long as a Michelin. The Nitto's are cheaper and have better traction than a Michelin, so they work good for some people.
You can't have it both ways. For a tire to last a long time, it has to have a hard compound that hurts traction.
My 91 CTD came with crappy Michelins and I eventually replaced them with Michelin XPS Traction tires: 235/84/16 load range E from Costco. I got great wear from them and am now on my second set. The logging company that I used to work for used them on pickups on gravel roads and got really poor wear--go figure.
Very trying times these past few weeks. Unfortunately my wife of only 45 years old passed away 2 weeks ago. Got my new Nittos installed yesterday tho. Very quite running tire. I was suprised. Came home and hooked up to my low-boy and pulled it for about 2 hrs. Good traction. Koodos to "Boatmans" in Nacadoches. In and out with alignment in under 2 hrs. They are also going to sell my old rims for me. Huway.
My nitto terra grapplers are done after about 12-13000 miles. I'll admit that I let them go after about 6,000 miles because they were already half gone anyway. My brother in law has hankooks on his 03 ford. I might try those. I haven't decided yet. I will let you know what I decide to do.
