Still no pix, huh?

Who needs pix when you can see it live. Funny thing is that I am now more aware of cyclist. On my 700 mile round trip this weekend I counted numerous explorers/expeditions/navigators and all other big gas guzzlers with a bike mounted on the back end traveling down the highway with only one occupant in the vehicle. WOW, what a bunch of eco friendly folk saving fuel. NOT!! My next stop was at several different "Silver Comet" areas. For those that don't know, it is a non-powered vehicle trail that goes for hundreds of miles. Low and behold, what did I see, but parking lots full of those 10 to 15 MPG fuel saving vehicles. I'm so glad that they are riding there bikes to save the environment, just wish they would practice what they preach and drive eco-friendly cars. I know that probability states a few do but the majority don't.

I want to also thank all those bikers who obey the laws of the road they share with us earth destroyers for staying in place and not peddeling up and passsing stopped traffic to get to the head of the line and/or proceeding through/around or turning at the stop light.

As for an RV'er not pulling over is not a good comparison. It's alot easier for a cyclist to pull over than 23K lbs and 60 ft of steel. Lets keep it in perspective. Of course, having a safe area to turn-off onto is a requirement. By the way, how are you getting stuck behind an RV going slow up-hill if your saving the world by being on your bike? Most bikers I've seen traveling up steep grades aren't going faster than 2-6 MPH, most RV's can maintain 30 mph plus. HMMMM, or are you in a fuel burning/ air polluting rolling road wagon? I do encounter many farmers with thier machinery on the road and they always pull over to let traffic pass.

Common courtesy from all would alleviate the problem but everyone has there own agenda.

I feel anyone should drive whatever they choose. Those cyclists may have families to haul around when not on a cycling adventure. Not to mention they are hauling their bikes to an area designated for them. I couldn't be happier to see that. I don't ride my horse down the hiway, I haul him to the trail where it is safer for me, him and the motorist.

That in mind, I heard this on the radio and I think it fits this thread:

Those pics are great. I can understand the one behind the RV to help push you up the hill, but the other one... looks like a biker got too close and was assimilated :D

How much of a fuel improvement do you see with those bikes on there :D

Dogs got the biker . I pick them up now and then. Pawn them, bike that is, to help pay for fuel. :-laf

ROFLMAO!! Now why didn't i think of that ;) Don't smoke the cyclist, run them over... take the bike... pawn for fuel money. WOW!!! :--) And if there's a whole pack of them, I can say I was in fear for my life and took'em all out. You got to be carefull around those biker gangs

Thank gawd your back! I was afraid this thread was going to Deteriorate into meaningful communication.

Me, personally, not speaking for anyone else, I don't ride my bike to save the earth (earth first!, we'll mine the other planets later. ), to save fuel (CTD, jeep, boat with 455, not bass), or exercise. I like to ride bikes. I like pumping up a hill to go scary-fast down it, 60 mph +/- on a 18 lb piece of titanium. Go figure.

Actually, a slow moving RV is quite entertaining If I can get hold of the ladder or ?.

I missed the part in the vehicle code where it says pull over to the right, unless it's inconvenient (23K lbs and 60 ft of steel). Ooops, there's that little thing called "The Law" again. Before you spew again, the cyclist should pull off if he is impedeing traffic, as should the 5th wheel, and the horse trailer, and the hyundai.

JStraw said:

Obviously you hate cyclists. They don't have to impede the flow of traffic, like they ever did (no pix, just excuses). On the road, on a truck, on an RV, on a SUV, the bike and anyone with it. Without reason, an unnatural loathing for the two wheeled. Not because they want to share YOUR road, just because they are there. Even on a rack!! Now thats funny!!

I guess there are people like that. Go figure.

As long as your also posting I guess it will remain unmeaningful. I won't waste my time getting pix as I stated earlier. But just searce and read a few 'Blogs', they tell of thier traffic impeding and have the photo's you desire.

I bet if it was a sportcar motorist who likes to go scary fast down mountain roads and your also there, that he would be the one in the wrong?

I guess you missed this part of my last post:

"Of course, having a safe area to turn-off onto is a requirement. " I didn't state any 'LAW' or that it was for bicyclist only.

You must have missed this also:

"Common courtesy from all would alleviate the problem but everyone has there own agenda. "

Seems obvious that you are the one hateing. You've gotten all worked up over my opinions. have a nice day. :-laf

By not driving a car and contributing to the problem they are, in fact, part of the solution.

Not driving a car, while noble if truly to save the planet, is still merely a token gesture at best. Out of the hundreds of cyclists I see per week, maybe 1 or 2 appear to be going somewhere. The vast majority do it for sport/exercise, and usually transport their bikes to their meeting place via insert SUV name here. The environment is often a convenient means of aligning themselves with the green crowd, all the while packing their homes with every petroleum based good imaginable, and contributing to global oil consumption every bit as much as the rest of us.

All that said, being a cyclist doesn't exactly grant you sainthood status now does it?;)

What kind of bass boat do you own?

that was no longer funny after the third or fourth time used. If you have nothing intelligent to add, don’t post.

I’m not agreeing with the narrow minded views of some folks on here, I’m more middle of the road on this. My point of view is simple. Give respect, receive respect!

The law is not as clear in some states as others on this topic. For example, Illinois code includes the usual for bicycles position on roadways – stay to the right hand side unless obstructed by fixed objects, parked cars, animals (this would cover the briken hip guy from the dog complaint), surface hazards ets, BUT goes on to allow for a subsection defining a “substandard width lane” as: a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle or motorized pedal cycle and a vehicle to travel side by side within the lane.

This subsection provisions for the “windy mountainous roads where it’s too narrow to pass”. This means you as a motorist, stay behind them until you can safely pass. This is YOUR responsibility as a motorist to be safe. The bicyclist has the responsibility to not impede traffic and also pull off when safe for them. They are not to ride more than two abreast etc.

Back to respect thing, show them some, back off and allow them to clear the lane and if they don’t show this mutual "provisioned by law" respect, smoke em out and whip’em into the ditch with your bass boat as you pass. :D

how about another topic sure to hit a sore spot with the majority. motorcyclist in the oncoming lanes riding the yellow line while lounging back with thier feet hanging out off the front of the bike? i've been tempted to remove a limb from these guys (Road Hogs) as they pass me. And i am a member of the AMA and ABATE of Illinois too, so dont think i dont care about motorcyclists rights. Just like smoking diesels, loud pipes and improper lane usage is just as negative to the hobby as hogging the lanes and disrespecting every motorist you happen upon. motorized or not.

You really should practice what you preach "If you have nothing intelligent to add, don’t post. "

And calling people " narrow minded " won't garner you much respect or a reason for people to see your point of view. TSK TSK :(

same thing around here well sometimes bikes come through, what pisses me off is the riding in the middle of the flippin highway holding up traffic, i mean yeah you got right of way but thats sort of just asking for it in my opinion, who do you things going to win the 80lb bicycle or the 4000lb car or even worse a large truck.

I know nearby in the next state they have had so many damn drunk drivers that have lost their driving license they are riding mopeds up and down the main highways, those get priority over a bicycle on the smoke list any day of the week. Im not sure where the bass boat comment come in but sounds like this guy rides a bike and got smoked while out on his bike by a diesel pulling a fishing boat, Dont stereotype all of us into one pile, it don't work like that.

I started the thread, and I also pay to use this site. I'll respond to anything I care to within the TOS of the site. Having said that, why engage yourself in the mental masturbation it takes to think of a response if you're going to just respond ''dont post''?

Read my thread about bassboats and you'll understand a bit more why it's such a funny response.
