Well, I took the plunge.

Currently, I couldn't be happier. My monthly payment almost dropped in half.

I feel like I have my first diesel back. I've had a smile on my face for the last two days. :D

Time will tell if it was a good decision or not... I did get a 36 month, 36k mile warranty. It was cheap and covers almost everything.

To be perfectly honest, shortly after buying the 2010, I wished I had found an older 5. 9. I've been talking to the wife about finding a mega cab 5. 9, and I found one.

This truck is more 'rough around the edges' and I like that. It's no where near as rough as the W350 nor the D250, but I like it.

It has a BD exhaust brake on it that works almost as well as the 6. 7 factory brake.

I did take all of y'alls suggestions into mind before I signed. So far, 200 miles, it was the right choice.

Bet it feels good to drive the 5. 9 again! Especially when that payment is due... its smaller and you like the truck better.

We'd be interested to hear a comparison. So far what we hear are folks going from 3rd gen to 4th gen, not the other way around!

Well, its been a month and a half.
The last two tanks have been 15. 5 mpg, 2 mpg above my highest in the '10, and I have been playingOo. . I finally see what others have said about the overhead. It has showed 20. 5 for both tanks.

As far as driving, I can tell the difference in the gear ratios/tire size change. I've seen the rpm difference with the older G56.
I really only use the clutch now when the truck is cold, for starts, and for 5th, and 6th gears. I can float this transmission smoother than I can clutch it.
The BD Brake is a little weaker, I have a slight surge with cruise during slight downgrades, and I really miss the '10's interior. I do miss the back-up camera, but I can definitely live without it and still park within an inch most of the time.
The first couple of days, I did curb the rear a couple of times as I forgot I was in a dually again . I will be looking into some dynamic balancing for the tires.

I talked to my salesman today.
He asked if I had gotten some bad fuel in the '10.
They sold the truck to a retired cop a couple of weeks ago. He was driving near the dealership and it lost a lot of power (limp mode?). When he pulled into the dealership, the truck died and wouldn't re-start. They had to push it into service.
They have been going over the entire fuel system. Apparently the injectors are clogged? They think they might have to put in a new engine.
They sent a sample of fuel to Chrysler to be tested. The truck has been sitting there for 2 weeks.
When I traded the truck in, I had had no problems with it and the tank was near empty.
I never did anything to the truck as far as the engine. I always got fuel at one of 2 Shell or 76 stations and never had any issues.
I feel kind of bad for the guy, but I know I didn't do anything to it.
Has anyone seen anything like this?

There are numerous here posts about the 6. 7s being more sensitive to bad fuel. I think over all it is a HPCR issue more than it is a 6. 7 issue as this has happened with 3rd gen trucks too.

From what I've found out, the dealership filled the tank and delivered it to the guy.

Boy, that would be a bummer if the dealership delivered it to him with a bad tank of fuel they put in it... . Wonder if the guy had filled it up since he took delivery????

Bad JuJu on the dealership...

Yeh, but if they did, he would be covered 7 ways from Sunday... :-laf

A two wheel drive with a limited slip can go almost anywhere a four wheel drive with open diffs can go.

Don't get me wrong, the 4x4 was handy, I just wished it had locking hubs.

I used the low range for gate traffic at the base, and backing the few trailers I pulled. It sucked turning tight, though.

I don't thank your new 06 will go where your 10 would go!! The engion is what will keep you from going there. Un less you load the bed with about 800lb. Then your fuel milage is gone.

I've had a 05 crewcab 288k, 07. 5 megacab 356k, and finally a 2011 crewcab 30k. They've all been great trucks but they are getting better each year. Theres no way i would trade back, the 6. 7 has proved itself to me..... I'm just sayin. .

You tow.
I don't. I have the truck for when I need it for what ever I need. Sometimes that includes towing. I like driving a diesel as well, so the newer, less tolerant of light loads engine is not for me.

I think you made a good choice. You have a lower payment and an an engine more suited to your driving style. This is why they make a truck that comes in a bunch of different configurations. Each truck, no matter how equipped/colored etc. is the PERFECT truck for someone. Glad you found yours.

Glad your happy!

I caution you about not using the clutch on a G56. . I have heard horror stories about it.
