As I am new with this truck, I just want to ask your wisdom on what the tow hall mode does and when I should be using it. Obviously for towing, but....

I'm sure you will get better answers but basically it changes the shift points when accelerating to allow the transmission/torque converter to better handle the situation, on deceleration it also alters the shift points and torque converter lockup to give better braking from the exhaust brake. bg

More aggressive braking

It allows for more aggressive braking while towing. I have used it a few times while empty and it sure is nice to have the option if and when I need to slow down fast.

I use mine when on hilly country roads, seems like the truck is happier and doesn't downshift as much, most defiantly more responsive .

I have done this on every vehicle and never had problems .

Chevy use to recommend tow mode while driving hills and steep grads, I don't know what Fiat recommends.

I also use mine in city stop and go / numerous traffic light conditions as it keeps you in a lower gear so the engine brake can work better.

Seeing that you are in BC, this is true except on icy roads unless you have really good winter tires and a good winter weight in the box or your may find you back end in front of you!!

I use the Tow haul mode when towing all the time. I like the way it makes the engine break work better. I've tried to use it when not towing and have found it hurts the fuel MPg's not much but enough to notice. I wish RAM would change the shift points and engine break response to be some where between normal and tow/haul modes. The down shifting and slightly more aggressive engine breaking would be a huge plus. Also why can't they set the programing to stay in the the mode you had the truck in when you parked it? My Honda keeps the Cruise control on if I leave it on I don't have to turn it on each time I re-start the engine.

Not sure, but the think in my test tow that the exhaust brake stayed on when the trailer was plugged in?? I least I turned it off and restarted after paying for the cat scale, and the exhaust brake was already active. Needs more verification however.

I wonder if you turn it on and then do the keyfob memory set if it will remember those other things? SNOKING

Nope......With a trailer plugged in, it will remember the exh brake setting but not the Tow/haul setting............

I tow 18 - 20k most of the time always using tow hall. When towing an empty gooseneck about 6500lbs on level ground I will run without it. I also believe the more gear you have in the rear (4.10) the less it is needed. With 3.42 gears I would use it more often. The 4.10 create more leverage making life easier on the trans. The opposite is true for 3.42, so holding each gear longer in tow hall would be go for the trans. Tow hall will use more fuel.

I also wish it would remember tow hall when restarting with a trailer plugged in.
