I hadn't towed my trailer since bombing my truck (see sig. ), so needless to say, I was eager. Took a shakedown trip to Corpus Christi and Rockport, a distance of about 250 miles. Only trouble was blowing the intercooler hose off twice. I had to double-clamp it since I have no problem exceeding 40 lbs. boost now. Which brings up a question. I have been told that 40 lbs. is exceeding the operating parameters of my HX-35 with 14 cm2 housing. If this is the case, how does it continue making more boost? The TTPM was a welcome addition. The added torque is very noticable and EGT's have dropped 100* or more. After returning from the coast, we headed for Bakersfield, Ca. The distance was 1435 mi. with a GCW of 24,200 lbs. At 60 mph out of overdrive, I was seeing about 12 lbs. boost and 750*. At 70 mph in overdrive, I was seeing about 14 lbs. boost and 850*. I felt real comfortable with both of these. I had some very long uphill pulls at times and would run out of overdrive to the summit. I managed to average 11. 2 mpg overall and had one section in Az where I averaged 12. 5. Considering the load, I am very happy with the mileage. With the power that I have now, I never had a single uphill pull that I felt was a challenge to the truck. There was so much uphill driving westbound, maybe it will seem like all downhill going home.
