Toyo: Open Country A/T Not impressed.

I am now running Toyo AT's, 285/75/17, and I am very happy with them so far. They have been great in the rain (Seattle area, lots of it) and the snow. They ride smooth and quiet too. Time will tell as far as the mileage... .



I had a set of Toyo MT's (295/70/17) on it before, absolutely the best looking truck tire I have ever seen, but after the get below 50% the curb appeal drops off fast. I was definately disappointed in the tread life. I had about 35K on them and they were gone!



Prior to the MT's, I had BFG AT (285/75/16 D) loved the mileage I had on these, over 50K and still sold them on Craigslist! The big gripe on these was they picked up every little rock in the world!



Kind of wish I would have gone with the BFG 285/70/17, E rated tires instead of the Toyo AT's, but I got hung up on the size difference and decided I HAD to have the 285/75/17"s. I do like the "tall and skinny" look of them though"

Interesting how some say they are quiet and some say they are loud. I know when I drove to Boston, which was about 1 hour on the interstate, they were driving me nuts. Now I am thinking maybe it is the drive line, the wheel bearings, the centrimatics, the transmnission... .



The drone starts at about 60 and by 65 it is awful. It started with these tires, so I'm gonna just run it until something gives. Wish I had someone to switch tires with to rule out any other problem though. Regardless, there is nothing else I can say that is positive about them. Oh, wait! They are really black!!!!!

just thought i'd throw my . 02 cents in. i went from BFG KM2's to Toyo MT's last summer, cost a little more but they looked good! i had been warned by my bud that they wouldn't last, but decided to find out for myself. well he was right!! got about 24000km (15000mi) on them and they were TOAST! i did all the same driving as the BFG's ( nasty sharp rock dirt roads, mud, hwy sometimes with trailer) and i had 2 tires completely blow out (had to replace) in that time as well. i know this isn't "typical" for the MT's, but it was my experience, and i will likely never buy Toyo's again because of it.

WOW is all I can say about all you guys thinking 50k is good mileage with your TOYO'S. Try Michelin or BFG'S next time and get them at Costco for less money and they will last you 50% longer. My 98 2500 4x4 with 3rd gen aluminum wheels and BFG'S gave me 85k with just under 1/4" tread left. Before I had those with my stock steel wheels and Michelins I made it to 100k with a bit above the wear bars. I was surprised that the BFG'S wore as good as the Michelins. I assume all you west coast guys bought into the Les Schwab Hype like so many do with the TOYO'S.

Do Michelin or BFG offer a 37" Mud Terrain tire with a 4,000+ lb load rating? One that will handle 650 hp without ripping lugs off?

I'm not being critical, I'm seriously wanting to know. I'm not 100% blindly sold on the Toyo M/Ts... they're just the only option I've found that fits my need. And, unfortunately, the prices as of late are getting out of my reach.

I was talking about stock type tires. You would have to look at the web sites or check with Discount tire or someone like that on the larger tires. My experience has been that Michelins are a very high quality tire that I get excellent wear every time.

If Eric is running 17" rims and 37" Toyo M/T's, he has load index 131 (4289lbs) and load range E. My 315 BFG KO A/T's on 17" are only a 121 (3197lbs) and D load range.

I can go to 18" rims and 325-65 BFG's and get 127 (3858lbs) and load range E.

The Toyo 37" falls off for 18" and 20" rims to 124 (3528lbs and D) and 127 (3858lbs and E) respectively. The Toyo web site is really nice and has a lot of info on it.

Sure am! And, yes, I was looking at BFGs site today, and it stinks compared to Toyos!

That may be true... however, with a 8400 lb rear axle weight I'd rather just be overweight on the wheels, and not the wheels AND tires!!! Lol
