I agree with quite a few of the guys. I have the stock size Toyo OC A/T load range E. I really like the tires, but the mileage truly does suck. I may 40,000 out of them if I'm lucky. They only have 25,000 on them now, and they're well more than half worn from the original depth. The Michelins I had on the truck lasted almost 60K. I was going to get them again, but went with the Toyos due to the cost savings. With the treadwear being much higher on the Toyos, the saving wasn't worth it. My next set will more than likely be Michelins again, hopefully larger than stock this time. They do look a little small in the wheel wells.

I will give the Toyo MTs a shot, if they dont last long I will go back to BFG ATs. I have had 4 sets of BFGs and they have all gone more than 45k.

I am looking at a few different tires also. I liked the Toyo AT, but they are just wiped out at 35-40K they aren't really worth the money. Now, the MT's seem to be really holding up to peoples expectations. One of my buddies has a set of 35's on his Ford PSD and he should hit 50K+ before needing new tires. That is a pretty large difference in performance. Scotty

Looks like My Toyo's won't make it another 5-10K miles. They have 30K on them now and are almost to the wear marks. I'm really disappointed with them. It was a good riding tire with great traction for my needs, but I can't afford to replace E range tires every 35K. I checked with Michelin and it looks like they don't have an E range tire that's any bigger than stock. Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Are these MT or AT?

Bridgestone 315-70-17 E rated Revo 2.

Bridgestone has released a 315-70-17 Revo 2 in an E range. Tirerack has an advertised price of $220 ea with reasonable shipping. Finally an E rated 315-70-17.

This is my 2nd set of Toyo AT's, the first set were 325/60/18 load range C. The new ones are 285/75/18 load range E.

The first set were at the wear bars by 20k, they road nice but they seemed to grab every rut and groove in the road. This latest set is a night and day difference in how the truck handles, corners much better, truck really behaves nice, especially while towing my fiver.

They don't look bad either.

I have the Toyo 285/75R17's on my truck and as "Scotty" said, will be very lucky to get 40K out of them. I only have 34,000 on them and they are nearly gone! They do ride good and handle good as well, but they do not wear good at all in my opinion. My next tires will be Michelan's.

From what i have read the MTs outlast the ATs... strange, I would expect the MTs to wear faster. I guess only time will tell. Anyway, I have 5k on my MTs now and they are wearing VERY well. I plan on rotating them this weekend and will post the tread measurements. I havent rotated on my spare tire yet so it is still shiny new for me to compare against. I will get it mounted on my extra OEM alloy wheel (from ebay) and put it in service.

I got just under 37K out of my Toyo OC AT's. I rotated them pretty regularly and kept them aired up high. They were awesome for the first 20K, but after that, they went down hill quick. I have since gone back to 265/70's in Michelin AT2's and after 7500 miles you can't even tell they are anything but brand new. I know it is far to early to tell, but they are wearing very wear. They also are an excellent AT tire. They grab dirt, and mud pretty well. Alot better than I expected. The only down side I can see is they fling little rocks like crazy. I think they are going to be really good in snow and ice though. There contact patch looks to be about perfect for that type of driving. I keep them aired up pretty high and pull my big toy hauler alot during the summer, so we shall see. I usually run about 30K per year, so it won't be too awfully long before I can give a really honest assessment of their wearing qualities. Scotty

I am at 22,500 miles on my Michelin AT2 265/70/17 E tires, and MAYBE will get another 2500 miles. They have been an EXCELLENT tire in ALL ways, EXCEPT wear. I don't know if I am expecting too much, but since most people are getting 30 to 40k miles on the Toyo Open Country AT, and they also seem to be an excellent tire, and ALSO come with a factory 40k treadwear warranty on all sizes 17" and smaller, they will be the next tires that I run, as opposed to Scotty who is changing from his Toyos to the Michelins. I am SURE that he will be happy with them, and I do hope that he gets better mileage then I did!! I also hope that I get better mileage from the Toyos then I did the Michelins.

PS--Scotty, my Michelins stopped slinging rocks pretty soon after 7500 miles, but till then, it happened ALOT. Also, it seems to me that it was only after 15k miles that they started wearing more quickly, but to tell the truth I have slightly undersestimated them, cuz I was pretty sure they would be dead by 20k, and now I might even make 25K, but they WILL be totally dead by then. They sure are a quiet, great handling tire though!!

I am with Seafish, I hope I do better than he did too! If I can get over 40K, I would be happy. If I don't get over 40K with this set of Michelins, I have no idea of what I will get. I paid the extra for the Michelins, so hopefully they come through. The Toyo OC AT's are great tires in traction, until they start to get about half worn, then they go down really quick. Plus, I had one Toyo wear out way before the other three. It was weird, cause the airing of the tires, and the alignment was still in spec. Kinda odd, might have got a soft one. I guess it is a crap shoot sometimes. It is just pretty expensive to spend a grand for tires every year or so. Scotty

Well I thought I would chime in hear after doing a little bill checking and math.

Mines a 2003 reg cab 2500 6spd. With 146. 7 thousand miles on it. ( converted it over from kilometers to miles as I know you fella's aren't into kilometers).

The original "BFG's" got about 59. 4 thou miles, took them off in the fall of 05 after returning from Alaska. Good tire, not great winter traction though and would pick up nails etc like a magnet.

Replaced them with "Cooper Discovery's" they lasted about 42. 7 thou miles, they hit the recycling bin in Aug. of 07. Nice tire but not note worthy.

Then I put on Toyo M55's they have presently about 45. 1 thou miles on them. This is Toyo's commercial duty tire. Excellant winter traction etc. very tough tire and resistant to punctures. They will have to hit the recycle bin before the snow flies however to be on the safe side as there winter traction at that point will be poor. So by that time they will probably have 50 thou on them.

So what will I put on next? Well the Toyo M55's are a serious consideration, but there pricy at $1400. Canadian out the door. Just over $300. per. Then there's the taxes.

They have been a no worries tire just keep them properly inflated, rotate them and drive them like you stole them.

The local Goodyear dealer tells me there silent armors are going on sale in the fall. So thats a thought. But you don't hear much about them.

So I'am reading and listening to all you folks to help with the decsion. So far the M55's are in the lead. Better the devil you know than the one you don't.

Sounds like no matter what you put on, they don't last much longer than the 40 thou mile ball park, and to stay in the 10 ply E class there all pricy.

How many miles did you get out of the original BFGs. Like Mr. Goat I got 58K out of the BFGs and could have gotten a lot more had the sidewalls not checked up. The Toyo 285/75R17 ATs I replaced them with have 21K and still have more than half the original tread depth left, though your post will have me watching for accelerated wear.

On edit: What pressures were your running with the Toyos? I never go below 55 psi.

Minimum of 55 Ibs on all four corners, when running empty. Adjust upward depending on load from there. If the campers on they are at 80 on all corners.

This practice has worked for me what ever the brand.

I run pretty much max or around 70-75Lbs all the time. I did let them down and then try to bring them up when I tow, but I am usually pulling something, so out of laziness, I just leave them aired up. Doesn't seem to ride much different anyhow, and the tires wear pretty evenly. Scotty

So far so good

Well, 6 months and 8k miles later I decided it was time to rotate. I purchased 5 tires when I bought these so I could rotate in the spare and prolong the life of the entire set. Measured the unused spare and it was at the spec'd 17/32, measured each tire on the truck and they all measured in at 14/32. I would say that is pretty good for 8k miles. I estimate that would put me over 40k for the set assuming nothing else changes and I keep alignment in it.

My Toyos looked really good right up to the 20K mile mark, and by the time they got to about 30K, they were done. They were great while they lasted though and they are the right size for the truck. Hope you get everything you can out of them. Scotty

Just hit 40K with my Toyo AT's. I can get a few more miles out of them as they still have a little rubber showing. I feel with the weight and torque of our trucks this is pretty good milage for a AT type tire. If I lived were there was no snow and ice in the winter they are some other options but these Toyos really stick well in those conditions. The stock Michiliens that came with the truck sucked in ice or snow-it was like driving on ball bearings. Just my 2 cents worth but I wiil put another set of Toyos on soon.
