Toyo Open Country AT or MT???

I'm going to get about 35K out of mine w/camper weight 24/7. I bought them mounted on stock rims @ 19,000K from a friend who never rotated nor rebalanced them. They carried his truck and camper also. They're right at 29,000 now and looks like in about 5-6K more they'll be ready for replacement. I'm going to replace them with another set of Toyo 285-75-17 AT's. BTW,no flats,cuts,nada.

I just installed the HT-285-70-17 Es on every truck We own, the ATs went 35k and had good road habits, the HT is far superior on wet Roads, No snow yet so I cannot comment on that, If they are good in the snow and get equal or better miles, I would prefer them on the road over the AT.

I will be putting on the Toyo at's next. They have a 50k mile warranty so if they are shot before then they should prorate them to a new set.

I just put a set of Toyo OC AT 285-75-17's on mine, look great and ride well, They have a very high weight rating, 3970lbs, Load Range 'e' , Iam hoping the wear better than most here are saying, we will see I suppose, but whether you buy thr At or Mt , check out 'Treadept.com' ,, best price I could find for them , I looked quite a while.

Interesting... ... ... . I just got an estimate not long ago and local dealer quoted them with a 50k warranty while he was looking right at my pickup.



I may have to get them to recheck, I should have gotten it on paper.

Les Schwab used to offer them with a 50k, BUT TWest is absolutely right--

Toyo factory warranty for 17" and under LT tires get a 40k treadwear warranty, ALTHOUGH P-metric sizes get a 50k warranty.

A few months ago i purchased a set of 35x12. 50R17 Toyo MTs for my 2007. 5 3500 SRW 4X4... ... I bought them from a local dealer for $1189 mounted and balanced, out the door, which totally beat 4wheelparts price of $1400+ before tax, shipping, and mount/balance..... I really am pleased with the look of the tires but also i am totally pleased with their performance in the mud (THEY WILL CRAWL EVEN WITH THAT HEAVY TRUCK) ... ... I only have 3000 miles on them now but I really hope I get decent mileage out of them... ..... I personally would not waste my time with an AT because after you get ATs you will see other MTs and regret your purchase... ... . good luck with your pick

how is the road noise on the road/highway? i'm looking at the same tires

I had the 285/75R17's on my truck before the Michelins and they were quiet and rode very well. They carried heavy pin weights very well also. They just didn't last very long, even with regular rotations and balancing. They are pretty good tires for the money though. Scotty

you can surely hear the tires at highway speeds (75-80mph) but by no means are they loud... . just a little hum that can be easily dealt with

Same. I was surprised by the relatively low noise given that they are a mud tire.

Bad news for me... ..... hit a pipe in a field this weekend and one of my toyo MTs (35x12. 50R17) with only 4k miles is dead... ... worse news of it all is when i bought my tires they were only $260 each with mount and balance... . wwweeellllllllllll not the price has jumped to $342 at dealer cost ... ... pricey little screw up consider the field took two hub caps and a rim with it

well got my new toyo in and on today... my tire guy took a look at the damaged tire and said that he would have no fear running it ... but IMO i feel better having to buy a new tire verses running the risk of the damaged tire blowing out and doing pricey body damage to my truck... he also told me the the gash was shallow enough that Strouhal Tire could repair it (which i have never really heard of someone being able to repair a side wall slice) the cut however was not extremely deep but has anyone ever heard of such a repair... ... ... ... . if nothing else if others feel the tire is safe enough to put on the truck i will feel at least safe enough to use it as a full size spare

I have 41k on M55 Toyos and they will easily make 50k. Great traction tire. I have 255/85/16 to take some RPM out of my 4. 10 rear end. If you get the M55's on sale they are a great tire.
