A buddy of mine came by with a 2001 Ram 3500 this evening with an issue. Truck is a 4x4 auto that is basically stock that is used to pull a 10K trailer twice a month. Currently has 206K miles on it, had VP44 done 60K miles ago and has the in-tank lift pump conversion. Problem comes when accelerating hard uphill, the engine will sometimes act like it is misfiring a couple times, will go to about 3200 rpm and not shift, seems like it is staying in 1st or 2nd gear only. No codes are coming from the pcm or ecm, and there is no unusual smoke being emitted under acceleration. The engine seems to be pulling hard after it is done shuddering. I told him to get some gauges on it pronto to monitor the engine and transmission. Any ideas?
