05 2700 Miles and running stronger every day. 18. 5 MPG running back and forth to work empty (I'm happy). Only minor problems are both front door seals are torn and something in the driver's door buzzes when the stereo is turned up. I also sometimes hear an intermitent tick tick from the engine that sounds kind of like a loose rocker arm on a gas rig. I'm not going to worry about it unless it gets worse.

2005 Picked truck up on May 13th, I have 5500 miles and no real problems,

Only things I can think of is drivers window makes a clunking noise every now and then, possible door regualtor. And I also have the same problem as JGANN where the high beam light indicator will flicker ever so slightly when on low beam. Plus the door seals, but I will wait to take to the dealer when more things happen? Other than that I really like the truck, better than the 97 and the 2000 I owned, all diesel 4x4 duallies.

Dustin

JGANN, I would be interested to see what is causing the flicker in the high beam indicator light. If you take yours in let me know, and vise versa on my part! ;)

#6 injector

TSB for scratching window tint

replaced power steering box

all 4 ball joints

cab leaks water (can't find)

launch shudder

leaking intercooler hose

drivers side visor wont stay up

2100 RPM drone (Banks exhaust fault)

all before 36000 miles

I still like my truck

10,000 miles on the ticker and no problems, even with all the mods.

Only thing is the AC does not get cool enough for my liking. I will take it in when something else arises, since we are going to be cooling off sson.

3rd Gen

Going on two years since I took delivery. So far the only thing that went "bad" was the a/c. Had the dealer top off the freon and works like new again. They put in dye to see if it may be leaking. Have 27,000 miles of mostly light duty, just under 1500 miles of heavy towing. Great truck for me so far. Enough power. Time to due some exhaust mods, but it will mostly stay stock. At my age I would still love to "hot rod" it, but don't feel the need anymore. Too many other hobbies.

One small thing, probably driver error, 5 to 4 down shifts are sometimes hit or miss. Usually end up in 2nd. My bad.

05 with 12k. Been through 2 rack and pinnion assemblies and a power steering pump. Paint peeled off the rear differential cover, dealer said no problem, it happens all the time, the fluid is fine, and they repainted it. Had a 6 disc changer croak as well.

overall pretty happy

73,000 so far and no real problems. Guages at about 10K. Had ball joints checked at 35k, dealer said they were within specs. I have been monitoring during tire rotation. Holding at about . 025" vertical movement. Did fuel tank mod about 40K. Replaced working LP at 50k with Fass11. Stock LP still in place for backup. TST since 15K. Rest of mods in signature. Replaced original Mich tires at 69K. Replaced with Nitto 295's. Just drove back from Chicago to South of Denver in one day last week. 1100 miles in

16. 5 hours towing a utility trailer. Mileage averaged about 18 even, hand figured. I have two Neapco Ujoints and a spare fan belt under the back seat but have not had a need for them yet. My door seals still look ok, but I wipe them everytime I wash the truck?. I drive about 45K a year and this is the most awesome vehicle I have ever owned. Good luck with yours.

Awww Fudge, just saw you were inquiring about stock truck. Sorry

I see a lot of problems with the door seals. Hard to be sure but I treated mine with 303 protectant (and every few months) and they still look new.

2500 4. 5 @ 19K miles:

Check engine light came on frequently during the first 5000 miles. I purchased a code reader and it never registered a code. The dealer could not find one either. Now at 19k, it has not come on again.

Power steering pump started leaking at about 10k. I waited for other problems before going through the dealer service hassel. The pump really started leaking at 18k after a front BFG 265 blew out at 65 MPH. Do crappy stock tires count as a problem? I now own six Goodyear MT/R 285s.

I had the white smoke TSB done and the high idle enabled when the dealer replaced the power steering pump. I also had them reflash the computer for the larger tires. (Still shows the same 1. 5 MPH slow as before based on GPS)

Great truck. I especially like the power at high altitude. Nothing can follow me up a hill other than another TD. The only better new vehicle experience I have had is with my wife's Volkswagan Jetta.

I had a leak on a high pressure fuel line to the injectors

Leaking valve cover gasket replaced

Leaking power steering box replaced

Recall for auto transmission line replace

TSB for cracked alternator bracket

All items were covered under warranty. 49k on the clock

Blown engine with 12K miles - details - why / how ??

Would like to hear "wha-happened".

[And of course, hope all is OK now!]

Thanks,

JC

Yes everything seems to be OK now, got the truck one week ago and have gone about 350 miles towing the trailer and solo over the Going- to-the-Sun highway in Glacier National Park Montana yesterday. The whole story can be found here in the 911 Archive section.

The final cause of the engine failure remains unknown. It turns out that the oil pump gasket was not missing a piece rather, a piece of it was folded inward, leaving no gasket between the two flanges (could only happened during manufacture). Best guess on cause of failure, the oil pump was pulling both air and oil causing some parts to not be lubricated properly

03 6spd

75,000

3 u joints

Power steering pump and line due to oring failure

Vibration and drone at any speed but I live with it

door seal torn

Door seals gone bad - 4K miles. 6 Disc CD changer finally has died a slow death - into the dealer on monday. Still get white smoke at start-up even after the TSB 18-037-04. Other than that, runs flawlessly and has tons of power, pulls the 10K+ 5VR without breaking a sweat on just about any hill/mountain pass I can throw at it and still maintains a 12. 5 MPG towing. Yep - I'm still smiling :D

4x4's don't have a rack & pinion.
