Hey guys I was wondering how many of you that pull are using automatic transmissions? I want to eventually after I pay some more off of my truck start playing with it it's a 02 regular cab with the auto would be better getting another truck for this or can I make it work.

Thanks

Jonathan

you CAN make it work. IMHO, it's a lot harder and more expensive to do with an automatic. depending on how hot you want to go. MEvins in mid tenn area has a really stout '02 auto. the first thing i would do is upgrade the transmission with dtt, ats or suncoast. because you will have a problem with the stock trans. i pulled with an auto for 4 years. and won a few of them. the preferred transmission to pull with is a standard though. good luck to you, nick

I believe propuller uses an auto in his truck. I saw it pull last summer and did not relize it was an auto. Maybe he will jump in here.

Thanks guys thats what I was figuring I know alot of the gassers around here use autos and they seem to do better than the sticks. I an just doing some preliminary planning I have to get the money and convince the wife first I put a stack on it and that didn't go over well at first.

Thanks

Jonathan

LOL @ the stack comment. i understand completely. imho, a auto with a tight tc can compete well. you'd need a pretty quick spooling turbo. b1 ks or something similar. good luck, nick

Yes you can pull with the auto if it is set up properly. I have a DTT auto with the billet input shaft & hub(saving up for the billet output) & i have been very sucsesfull competing against the manuals. Last year when i pulled i held the brake at the line to spool up the B-1 turbo & then when she started to push through the brakes i let off the brake & pushed the pedal to the metal. I shut off overdrive & let the trans shift into third then i through on the nitrous & let her rip. I always had very good ground speed & i always spun out at the end with the tires buzzin pretty good. Everybody that has seen my truck run could not believe it was an automatic. I have not touched my trans all year & it works as good as the day i put it in. I trashed my stock trans before i had 5,000 miles on the truck & this trans has been in for 15,000 miles of very hard use. The way the truck was setup last year it made 600 horse on the bottle & 1200 ft lb torque so im not sure how it will act on the track with the twins & mach 5 injectors. If you want to pull with the auto you will need to call some of the big trany builders & do what feels best for you they are all very good at what they build. DTT,ATS,GOEREND,SUNCOAST. Take your pick you cant go wrong with any of them.

I've been pulling with my DTT auto for 4 years and have done pretty good(the hops have killed me more than anything else)---you will need to upgrade it as stated before--I've basically got the same transmission as Propuller (I think)--except I have the cryo'd output shaft--a billet one would be wise, but my cryo'd one has lived, but I don't know how much longer it will ---keys are t-case in 4lo---transmission in Drive and OD turned off---and do just like PP says--build boost until she won't hold and smash it---chris

jsilva... ... . but he ain got a run of the mill trans, it was built by hilljack engineering west. 5 bucks says kta knows of a few other successful pullers with tc locked
