Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Truck runs cooled

Hey guys,

I took a trip between California and Nevada this last weekend on 395. Going through the desert I noticed the temp. gauge at the bottom of normal range and under. This after being on the road for a couple hours and the outside are was about 105 F. I have noticed she don't warm up all the way when going to work but thought maybe I wasn't driving far enough (about 11 miles). Thiniking maybe the thermostst is stuck open. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like the thermostat. I had two fail an the 99 I had before 50,000 miles. One the rubber part came loose and restricted the flow and it woul run hot under load, the other one the cage failed. It has a rubber ring around the top which serves as the gasket, you should be able to remove it and reinstall without leaks if it checks out ok. bg

Put thermostats in that will take care of your of problems!

i also had a cage fail. i will bet it will be obvious when you pull it out
