Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Truck sitting for 3 weeks

Got a question. I am at school for 3 weeks and my truck will sitting the entire time. I have left it for 2 weeks before and she started up just fine but was wondering if she will start up fine after 3 weeks? I seem to remember reading somewhere if the truck sits for a period of time the fuel will drain back into the tank and you needed to prime it before starting the truck.

You shouldn't have a problem. I left my truck sitting for a month before and it always starts right up. If you do have a problem it might be time to change the fuel return line from the injector pump to the tank.

You mite want to undo the fuel shut off connector and turn the engine over a few times to get oil on the engine parts again.

3 weeks isn't anything to worry about. I left my '97 with a buddy of mine when I went to Iraq, and it sat around for a couple of months between starting and he never ran into any issues. The only thing I did and had him do, and what you might want to do is get some biocide to put in the fuel, run part of a tank of the mixed fuel through it so the mix gets all the way through your fuel system.

cummins recommends after sitting i think a month to crank on the engine without starting until oil pressure registers.

We just recently fired up a 98. 5 24 valve that had been sitting with it's nose stuck in a barn and the flatbed hanging out in the breeze for about a year. Course the batts were junk, however they were wallyworld 3 year free replacement no questions ask with a receipt. Got new batts, had to crank on that puppy for quite awhile. Even using starting solution, she coughed and sputtered. Really didn't fire off until he cracked a couple injector lines. That bled enough air that fuel started flowing. Probably not the kindest ways to treat your starter though. That will probably be the next problem.
