Hello

I have CTD 06 Dully, from day one and it’s been a great truck now with almost 100K miles on it.

Well sense I bought it I was running my own business doing Excavation, and site work, bidding, hauling and whatever else I could come up with for work, and I hate to say I just put diesel in it, replaced tires as needed, and repairs as was needed with no real attention to costs ... but I honestly did just that. . I drove it made lots of money and didn’t' care because it was just a cost of doing business... . And truthfully there wasn't anything else that was going to do the job cheaper.

Well now I’m looking at some JOBS. . AKA working for someone else and the commute is about 100 miles a day. So to make a fair comparison I’m looking to figure out my true cost per mile to drive this thing.

No load just me driving, basically commuting in Seattle WA traffic

I’m hoping someone out there has really crunched the numbers and can provide a little insight

I figure fuel is about . 26 CPM Figured at 15 MPG and $4 a gallon

Tires at about . 03 CPM

Oil and air filters at about . 015 CPM

Cost of the truck . 25 CPM based on 200K and $50K truck

So this all comes down to about . 55 Cents per mile, I figured about . 50 seeing as it will still be worth something at 200K But I’m not sure on maintained costs past the usual tires, oil, and air filters Anybody have a average for all that. I realize a Dully isn’t exactly a commuter car but it’s what I have to work with right now.

So Who has some really cool history and a average cost comparision.

I haven't figured tires and oil, maint, etc. . But my average fuel cost has been $0. 180, with an average price of $2. 90, and 16. 14 mpgs over the last 49,5xx miles.

Guess on tires is 0. 025 on my first set, oil and filters runs about 0. 011, fuel filters about 0. 0013. So with actual fuel and guessed maint I am at about $0. 22 per mile, plus truck and mods.

I keep a running total of my costs and the cost per mile calculation in Excel. The costs include the out the door price, interest I had to pay, fuel, fuel additives, repairs and all the costs associated with maintenance. What's not included is the registration costs, inspection costs and insurance costs, which would raise the cost per mile. I also don't include money I've made on my truck that would lower the cost per mile because it's really not a work truck, for the most part. My non-purchase payment costs to own the truck have pretty much balanced out with my purchased payment costs this year. As of the most recent calculation, it has cost me $0. 4195638001/mile. 9241. 695 gallons of fuel and fuel additive make up the bulk of the non-purchase payment costs.
