Interested in how you felt the truck ran after, was throttle lag/torque management improved, mileage, etc

What tuner did you use. I was looking at the Smarty

What is meant by emission compliant tuner such as Smarty and others. I thought they all were non compliant in states like CA.

I realize warranty would be violated, my local manager said unless he really thought the tuner harmed something he wasn't going to play that game that other dealers do to make more money....then again if he moves on no saying the next one wont.... BUT I AM SICK AND TIRED OF DODGE NOT FIXING THE OVERLY AGGRESSIVE TORQUE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMING....got an engineer to admit its in there and cause of poor throttle response a couple of weeks ago.

I am thinking of writing to Fiat CEO directly and just let him know what I think about this crappy programming. Are they that concerned that the truck cant handle better take off than my 5.9 and is it really a good idea to then have it come on hard after the lag, that seems worse to me.

If you learn to roll into the throttle rather that stomping on it, things will be much better. A lot of the driveability issue with 2013+ trucks can be traced to driving style.

you may not like the way the torque management feels but FCA spent a lot of time and effort getting it that way for a reason,,,

Again a 5.9 shouldn’t take off smoother but it does. They over did it or worse they don’t trust the aisin as much as was hyped.

I’m well aware of rolling the throttle and there is no way I would stomp on it. It would lag 3 seconds then hit hard. That would be too abusive.

The rolling on the throttle tech also does nothing for the problem when you come up on a light or slower traffic then come back on. Delay every time even with mild throttle depression

It is not about fast but safe. My local dealership even recognized the issue but I feel they have nothing to offer from above. It is actually unsafe

Anyone that thinks this is an issue should file a complaint on www.safercar.gov

The more people that do that, the greater chance that the NHTSA will investigate and direct FCA to fix it.

Each year has a handful of complaints, and we need hundreds or thousands to get action.

Yes, torque management brought to you by the same people that brought us such wonderful features like the horn that honks when you are backing up to a trailer with your door open.......what a great idea.

Bob4x4, while I guess adding any Hp/Tq to the system technically would cause a shortened life I have a couple thoughts. I added a smaty jr in tow mode for over 100K on my 5.9, sold it at over 200k and not a thing wrong with it and I believe that was a 70hp increase. I thinking driving style and maintainance probably played a bigger factor in longevity. My other thought is that they have gone from 350hp/650tq to 385/930 or so over the years with a step up to the aisin along the way but it seems they have greatly increased the power over time and I doubt they greatly changed the transmission at least in last few years. One would hope that they are not running these trucks on the brink of failure such that adding 50hp or 12% more hp would significantly impact the truck. If they are maybe we need to de tune our trucks to ensure they can heavy tow and run 300k.

Unless the slow throttle response is a Cummins thing, I drive a KW at work with a PX9 Pacar made by Cummins.
Those all (including the PX7, 6.7L) have lag when I try to take off.
Frustrating when traffic is tight and your loaded. Stomp or roll into it makes no diff.
2-3 sec of poke and then it's roar.

My 2013 3500 Aisin has SOP 100-110 Additional hp pulling 21-25K GVW, ALL Summer long, it has 36K Miles 30K of those miles with the added HP.

From what I read on the tuning forums, the Aisin has no real tuning support. It also doesn't like extra HP. Great transmission, but only if left stock. the 68 isn't a great transmission, but can be built well (with a lot of $) an has a lot of tuning options. This is one of the main reasons I would not get a Aisin if I were buying a new truck now.

This thread reminds Me of what Bill Kolonday (DTT) back in 2004 Stated that all 48re with additional HP and even Stock levels will fail do weak thrust washer. Bill knew the trans well and had good intend... after 100 of 1000s of 48re put into service the mass failure never Happened.

Early on (2013) I talk to the People at Aisin, We had Lengthy discussions, ( I ALWAYS INVESTIGATE MATTERS) I don't make purchase by reviews or Forums comments ONLY, I call and find someone who will try and gain My trust, if they don't , I move on and don't look back... in other works don't believe or put faith into everything read, Make calls talk to a real person that knows WTH there talking about...

Now that being said the powers at Aisin made it clear to me, 450-460HP-1250-1300FT TQ the 69 would support in normal use and service, and in my case both My 69 are holding up and performing well, I would like to add these are the 1st OEM trans left in My Rams, in ALL of My Ram/Dodge ownership the 47/48s didn't make it to 500 miles before I upgraded them form new.

I read and enjoy peoples comments just like anyone , but all My judgments are base on TRUST and that TRUST must be gained, I don't give it to anyone ever, this has been a great protection.
