I have a 98 12 valve in my shop. customer complains of a turbo bark. he took me for a drive and it does it worse @ 10 to 15 psi boost. now that doesn't make any sence to me. seems like it should be worse at max boost which is 32 psi. when he lets off the throttle at 10-15 psi it sounds like it pops back thru the air intake.

has anyone had this problem? any help would be appreciated. thanks guys.

Stock turbo? Any fueling mods? Just started this or been ongoing?

Turbo to manifold gasket good? Exhaust manifold gaskets good?

Does it appear to be missing at all? It might be a tight intake valve or an exhaust not opening.

stock turbo, gaskets all good. it has a #10 fuel plate and gsk thats all.

runs good doesn't miss. but I'll check valve adjustment, that sounds like a good idea.

thanks for the replys.

thats whats wierd, it won't hardly bark at 32 psi. it does it worse at 10-15 psi.

I'm gonna adjust the valves tomorrow just to have something to do I guess.

I don't think it is the turbo. Try removing the intake hose and listen for any slight, funny noises at an idle, coming from the turbo intake. It might be a bad cam lobe on the exhaust side or an intake valve not completely seating.

I adjusted the valves. they were all a little on the tight side, but didn't make any difference. we put a different waste gate thingee on. no help.

now I'm not sure if it's turbo bark. it sure sounds like it's barking back thru the air intake. but we test drove it two or three times and discovered it won't do it when the torque converter is locked. but when you first take off and get the boost pressure up to 10-15 psi let off and bark bark bark. (why me)
