think mine is leaking. pulled the intake hose off the other day and i have a little oil around the fins in the turbo. how urgent is it that this is fixed? i dont think i'm capable of doing it my self, what kind of bill am i looking at? is it worth it to fix? or should i think about upgrading it? of course i want to upgrade it, but was hoping i didnt have to spend that kind of money right now. What are my options?

Just my $. 02, but I have read about and seen diesel engines suck oil from crank case through turbo seal into the engine. The over rev, with no way to shut the down, and eventually self destruct. I think around here it is called a "run away". I would go with an aftermarket. Just my thoughts.

push the shaft to one side and see if you can make it scrub. I f you can't and there is no marks where it is rubbing you are in good shape. There is no seal as such in a turbo just a small piston ring. A small amount of oil film is not unusual on turbo that has some miles on it. If I had to guess I'd say it fine but be sure and check the air filter.

Hope this helps
