I was changing my filters Sunday and pulled off the intake hose to look at the turbo, no reason in particular. There was some white powder on th einside of the hose adn that does not bother me to much, looks like what I see on the new rubber straps etc we have at work.

In the turbo there was some dirt on the housing. But what concerned me the most was the roughness that appeared to correspond with where the blades would be in the housing.

Am I being overconcerned about nothing, or am I

Looks good to me! I think all the intakes have that residue. Surprised to see you still have your silencer ring in there:eek: Maybe give your intake the "white glove test" to see if any dirt is getting by and sticking to the intake tube.

My concern is that there is "pitting" in the turbo housing that I could feel with my finger. The wheel moves smoothly with no slop in it in any direction and I have not done any modifications to the truck, but have been told it has a plate in it. My concern is that I bought it used and the previous owner may have done something. Of course that was over 140k ago so maybe I should not worry about it.

What is the silencer ring? I would be more than happy to remove that:-laf

Troy, the silencer ring is held in by the outer most snap ring. Just get a pick in there under the gap and pop the snap ring out and then the tin plate ring will come out. Just do not reuse the ring if the turbo sings too loud for you. The tin plate is tight behind the snap ring. Looks like your gap in the snap ring is hiding up towards the top. Turbo looks good by the way and if there isnt any shaft movement then dont worry.
