Since June, I've been kicking around the idea of installing twins. After seeing all the recent posts, and the ride in Mark's truck, I couldn't resist it anymore.

After 16 straight hours of fabrication, fitting, smashed fingers, and a few cuts and burns, we finally got the twins installed. There were three of us working on it, but the fabrication still took a long time.

Turbos: I used a custom modified HX35 w/ 18cm housing for the primary. It's a good solid turbo, and flows really well. For the secondary, I built a custom turbo out of two Garret turbos. I'm not sure of the numbers, but the exhaust side and bearing section came from a John Deere 10. 5 Liter marine engine. The intake side came off of a John Deere 12. 5 Liter marine engine. Everyone at Dallas Dyno Days saw it. It's huge.

How does it perform? Ha! These things spool like there's no tommorrow! I hit ~60 psi with my Comp on level 3x3! I'm almost scared... almost :D! This thing will pin you to the seat!

Now for the down side... There's always a down side. I can't keep my intake cross tube in place! It keeps blowing off the front of the HX35! I clocked the tube so hard today that it crushed my BHAF :{. I've tried hairspray, bigger clamps, retaining compound to no avail. I'm gonna put a turnbuckle on the pipe and connect it to the manifold. Then it can't move.

One word... WOW :--). I'll have pictures tommorrow.

Power sounds great. :D

I'd be worried about what's gonna blow next after you "fix" the "fuse"

Install two screws 180* apart on the intake tube where it joins the charger. It will form a "mechanical coupling. " This will keep it from coming off.

twins

I think that this is the best way to do things help people fab up everything. let the brave one run it for a while (r&d) then when your sure it works make them help you put yours on:D

even though it took 16 hours to build we all had a great time except for the hurt thumbs (thanx rauls) NOW Gizmo FIND ME ONE i'm jelous and feeling alittle slow after riding with ya:(

Daniel

Daniel, thanks again for all your help! Ready to ride again? Oh yea, if you have any 16cm housings laying around, I need to do a little more testing with different size housings.

Ok, I fixed the main blowoff problem. Now it's just a matter of flaring the rest of the pipes a little more and I'll be ready to roll.

Further findings: I've got a little bit of a lag problem. They're not spooling quite like I hoped. Nit picking detail. Also, it levels out at 60~65 psi on level 5x5. So, do I still need a wategate (until I get bigger injectors anyway)? As far as EGTs, I can't break 950* post turbo, where before I was running 1300 EASY.

hey no problem I enjoyed the learning experience

ride again hell yes

race again not yet

I do have a brand new one sitting at the house I'm sure we can barrow it if not I'll take mine off and let you test it.

lag = 18cm2 housing I told you:p

oh by the way how dare you crush that bhaf after I went and blew out the 5 lbs of sand for ya thats ok I used it to fill some holes. :D

I found a larger t-bar clamp, and used CMNS PWR's advice and put a few screws in the front housing of the HX. Boot hasn't even tried to move. Thanks CMNS PWR!

LSmith, yep I could nail 1300* post turbo on a good hard run. I opened the hood one day after a run and the exhaust housing was still glowing !

Come on Daniel, let's go back to Ennis . I'll go easy... yea right! I straightened out the BHAF. Don't worry. You can't hardly tell where it got hit. I've also got a small dent in my hood from where we blew the tube off the first time! We found that earlier today. Good reminder of the trials and tribulations of building dual turbos :p.

It rained today, so no pics yet, sorry.

Kris, I got a call from AFE today on the filter I ordered and it is suppose to be here Wed or Thurs os I'll get some runs in after that and report back.

Jim

I got around to fixing and testing the truck today. YIKES, THIS THING IS QUICK!

I migged a ring around all of the pipes, and around the intake housing of the HX35. Haven't had a hose blow off all the way to 65psi.

I'm very happy now :D:D:D! Very very happy! Just got to play around with it till it's right. I've still got plenty of parts to test: Different intake and exhaust housings, impellers, tubes, you name it. YYYYEEEEHHAAWWW!!!

TDK. . I tried to get some pics of the twins yesterday. . but got shut out until the R&D is finished. . lol. . Actually he's going to post some pics later. . Glad to hear U got it it fixed. . Maybe its time for me to take her for another spin. . maybe I'll get further than a 100ft before I hear the PPooofffff..... and have to stop while U put the hoses I blew off. . back on. . lol. . I guess U can shame Silver again tomorrow. . maybe I can find more gears this time... (now where that NOS bottle go. . :( )

I think Drice is right on the housing... . I believe I heard a rumor that Drice has a 16cm housing??? ;)

Bryan

Good to hear you converted GIZ!!!!

The lag is why I went w/a external WG and a 12cm housing. ... NO LAG!!!

so lets see the pics????

the new tubes Quadzilla and I are making are WAY cool. tighter bends and a little better turbo placement... makes the downpipe easier.

I'll get pics when I get the new tubes cerama coated.

Later,

Mark

1:00 pm:

Man, the truck pulls a trailer like it not even there! Instant boost, and LOTS OF POWER :D. Pulling a 40ft trailer loaded to the brim with pallets, I could take off and keep up with normal traffic!

6:00 pm:

AARRGGGHHH!! I blew another boot to pieces!! It took 62psi this time, then KaBOOM! Ripped it in half :(. It survived pulling the trailer, but couldn't take anymore. I've been in touch with SPA about buying a set of silicone rubber hoses. They should hold up... shouldn't they?

Mark, my downpipe was a royal pain in the butt. We had a whole 5" to play with. And with a 4" pipe, that doesn't leave much! Let me know how the tubing goes. Sounds interesting.

Brian, don't let me forget the camera... again. I gotta get these pictures up, NOW! I feel like I'm gonna get nailed from the others if I don't :p.

how's this look?

try using some marine exhaust hose instead of silicone. . cheaper and very tough. I get it from 'kim's hose and fitting' here in FT Worth--

Fort Worth, TX 76107-1329

you can get enough to replace all the hoses except the intercooler boots for $30-40.

Stuart hose has the t-bolt clamps.

do those screws you put in extend thru the pipe ---I'd be takin' 'em out if I was you---if one breaks off you're gonna hate life---just ask my6eatsv8's----chris

I COMPLETLY agree with this. I was going to say something about my6's incident with the same thing, but didn't know who all know about it/needs to know.
