How long will the run position stay on without timing out and shutting off? I go the update message the other day and said later.

There appears to be something with the update that keeps the run from timing out (reading between the lines) as others have had no issues with that. MOST that I've been reading about just let it download while driving to / from work or when they know they'll be on the road for 10 - 15 or 20 minutes.. Key is once it is downloaded and the install starts, you can turn off and walk away. It will continue until finished.

So my friend Ron (Cummin12V98) was correct. The new voice is straight from Log Cabin Maple Syrup!!! Ug! Ug! Ug! Like Ron, I am unable to find a setting to select a different voice. SnoKing

Oh yeah. Thought there were supposed to be different voice selections in this update? Guess I'm going to have to read some more.. Still not sure what you mean by "straight from Log Cabin Maple Syrup" but wouldn't anything be better than what it is now? <grin>

New voice is very syrupy!

I think maybe 1 notice a little change or I never saw it before. That is the the Nav symbol in on the menu bar has the compass direction displayed. Not sure if that was there before or not.

Took a while to move things around of the menu bar. Figured out you just have to re-drop an app in a different location to force other symbols to move around. Finally was able to get Nav moved over closer to the drivers side.

It appears from my post above FCA are subcontracting their mapping along with other auto companies

Yup, that is what I was saying. Garmin GIVES the updates to FCA. FCA then does whatever and hands them off to HERE.com (again for FREE) who then does their thing and suddenly the update that has so far been free jumps to $150! No one person in the chain that I talked to (Yup, spent a lot of time on hold to talk to a REAL person at Garmin, FCA AND Here.com) could explain what is happening to make a free update turn into $150. HERE.com was the shadiest of the bunch to deal with. Garmin's VP of sales was by far the nicest. FCA, if you talk to the first person you get on the phone are *****'s but by the time you demand to speak to a person in charge (third I talked to) they get pretty nice. Oh well,,, Next time I'll tell you about my refund experience with HERE.com <ROFLOL>

I was just looking at the android system youtube that is available for newer trucks. To bad they did not include that feature for us oldies. SnoKing

I wonder how long I'll be waiting. Wonder what the order of who gets picked is? Doesn't seem to be by build date.

It was there before. I didn't know it until a few months after I got the truck. My youngest picked up on it and asked about it since she likes to be the navigator and select waypoints. I guess since I'm used to getting my heading from the EVIC, I didn't notice it.

Agreed!, I hope they find a way to include that....because I think the equivalent Apple system was included with the recent update.

I think it was just Apple Siri voice?? The Android Service is a full mirroring of the smart phone to the 8.4 display with bi-directional control.

Perhaps....I thought I read that it was Apple Auto....or whatever it is called, I just may be confusing two descriptions between what the new trucks have vs the update.

I agree on the nomenclature confusion. It's Siri Eyes Free and Apple Car Play. Then there's Android Auto which is the full blown integration for them and comparable to Car Play. I don't know of the Siri Hands Free Uconnect equivalent for Android's Google Now which is their voice assistant.

To make it more confusing, the Uconnect system is built on the RIM OS, (the original Blackberry). Not that that's bad. That is actually one of the more stable and secure portable OS' built. I think Toyota used RIM as well until recently and there are rumors that FCA will go with a Android variant to base Uconnect on in the future.

I received the OTA update yesterday. Worked out great, as far as installing goes. For me, I dont physically see any difference than what I had before. I'm assuming the map is more up to date. What I'm REALLY hoping for in the near future is that FCA will roll out Android Auto.
