I was going to pick up some hardwood for the new house today and halfway through my 1hr trip it started losing power and blowing white smoke. I limped to a caseih dealer and bought a fuel filter and barrowed some tools. The old filter has sludge (I'm guessing this is the algea from the fuel system I've heard about) in it. Put new filter on and drove about 200 miles with no problems. My advice is to keep a spare filter with you.

I had problems with 0 fuel pressure under load after 20psi. I replaced overflow valve, lift pump, and bypassed the fuel heater. Turned out to be the filter, I should have checked that first but it only had like 5k miles on it. I think ULSD may have got me as well.

I had a bus engine loose power not long after a service. It showed 10 psi supply. So, I replaced the lift pump/ overflow valve and still 10 psi. Replaced both fuel filters and the pressure shot to 20 at slow idle speed.

I'm told that the supply system components are tested by pinching off the return line with engine running. If the pressure rises rapidly, the pump is a-ok.

I always keep a spare filter in the toolbox (actually have two of 'em back there right now!)

I haven't experienced any negatives from ULSD, but I did lose a lift pump and get a snotted fuel filter after my first tank of B20!
