Uniroyal Loredo's.....any good

Anyone have any experience with Uniroyal Loredo tires on our trucks?



Here's my dilema, 50k miles on original Goodyears. I'm really thinking about going to Michelins, however, the tire company I normally deal with is suggesting Uniroyals as an option also, significantly less than the Michelins).



So, please respond with any goods, bads, or uglies. I'm really concerned with wet weather traction.

I had Uniroyal Laredos on a new chevy pickup several years ago and they were junk. They would get punctured on normal gravel roads that would not be a problem for any other tire. I ended up replacing all of them before I got to 7500 miles with Les Schwab tires. I'll never own another set.

Several years ago, Uniroyal was purchased by BF Goodrich. Shortly after that, Michelin bought them. my personal experience has shown that the quality control of Uniroyal tires has gone up considerably since being acquired by Michelin.



As for whether or not they are comparable, I'd say Michelin has an edge. They subscribe to the "Tell them everything they know, not everything you know" philosophy. So from a quality standpoint, Michelin is still a better tire. But you will pay for it up front.

I have uniroyal loredo all season a w p 245/75/16 on front

with 45k about 25k left on the rear u/l hdt with nail gard 235/85/16 about 27k look the same as the day they went on

I've got em on my truck, after about 10k, no problem. They seem to be wearing well and no flats with lots of gravel road driving. If they used to be junk, looks like they've improved.



Wet weather performance is OK, no complaints.



I only bought one, paid about $124. The other 5 were on a new horse trailer we bought. My old truck tires are now on it.

If Uniroyal has went through that many changes then I'm sure my comments are no longer valid as I had them back in 1991. Maybe they are worth a look.

Since I have been through 4 sets of tires already in 4 years, this time around I went with the Uniroyal Nail Guard series, 245's and they have been on the truck longer than any other brand. So far with about 35,000 miles on them they are about half worn. I pull a large 5'er most of those miles and rotate them about every 5000 miles.

These are good tires and have a 60,000 warranty on the tread life.

Thanks guys, the tire guy I've been going to for 16 years speaks highly of the Uniroyals. Of course he said the Michelins are better, but the Uniroyals would be fine for me (also about $%% less per tire, times 6... ..... more money for BOMBs if OI go with Uniroyal).



I stopped by his shop last night, and went over the selection. Looks like I will be going with Uniroyal.

My dad bought several of them over the years for his F-250 and they seemed to wear out fast. But that might have been the truck too.



I'm don't have a lot of liking for the company as they moved out of here and left their employees high and dry. Went to Mexico and found not enough water after building a new plant. I hear they may have closed it too. Oh well.

Uniroyal Loredo's

My 86' Ranger 4x4 had a set from the factory and they rode and wore great with no flats for the 24k that I owned it. I know the old man had a set on his 66' Ford 3/4 ton (20 years ago) and he had problems with belt separations.

I have my second set of Laredo's on my truck now. The AWP's. They have about 20,000 miles; rotated once and they look fine. Good in rain and snow, not too noisy. Bought them at BJ's wholesale for $85 or so each. Every once in a while they have a coupon special for $10 off per tire or something. $7 per tire for free balance and rotation for the life of the tire. No one else even comes close on price.

I got 40K out of the last set.
