Truck Capacity?

Towing charts for 2001 Dodge RAM trucks with CTD

I have a gooseneck trailer that has vacuum-over-hydraulic brakes.

On a gasoline engine truck the system gets vacuum from the intake manifold; there's no such source on a CTD, or for that matter, any diesel engine.

Dealer says the vacuum pump (for cruise?) won't supply enough vacuum to operate the brakes. My truck is an '01. 5 2500 ETH/DEE 4x4.

Does anyone have experience using this kind of system on a CTD? What is your source of vacuum?

Trailer is heavy built and in good shape. I need to figure out how to have brakes when I pull it.

Thanks for any suggestions. I'm constantly amazed at the knowledge and helpfulness of TDR members. I bet someone has figured this out.

Vacuum brakes

There are both aux. electric and belt driven vacuum pumps available. The belt drive is a pain because of the bracket and belt, the electric is a pain because its electric. Both need a reserve tank. You may be able to add a larg capacity vacuum resreve tank and make it work, or think about going to electric, not the best but it'll work and at less cost in the end.
