I seen a fuel injected 83 vw wagon today. Its fuel delivery system looked strikingly similar to a diesel. Anybody know what the system is called? Or if it acts just like a diesel fuel injection pump?
My guess is it is a "k" jetronic system by Bosch. These used a vane sensor airflow meter, and I think they were a electronically monitored mechanical fuel injection. I had this system in a 80 Peugeot.
quantam sounds right. It didnt say diesel and there was no turbo. The owner said it ran on gas. But it flat out had an injection pump. It even had high pressure lines just like on a diesel. Im looking for an old diesel car to convert to run on grease. I have a large supply of grease available. Run it through a filter and I got free fuel. Plus those cars get 50 mpg.
They do get excellent fuel mileage BUT don't expect much in the way of performance. Most of them only made ~60HP/90TQ IIRC. Compare that to ~90HP/150TQ for the TDI versions with same fuel mileage. But obviously far more complicated so that could be a problem.
The 1. 5ltr were rated at a whopping 48hp and the 1. 6ltr was 50.
I saw on ebay a guy is selling COMPLETE,non electronic, 1. 9ltr TURBO DIESEL ENGINES. These are brand new. He says they are rated at 75hp. They would run a Rabbit,Dasher or pickup real good.
