Called DC today to ask about Check Engine light coming on after remote starter install. They told me they have seen 100 trucks at their particular dealership do the same thing. They told me no newer Chrysler product (truck, car, or minivan) will accept an aftermarket remote starter without messing up the computers.

Anyone out there get one to work? Sorry, I have not figured out how to post my truck and accessories yet. It's a 1998. 5 3500.

Just wanted all to hear what DC says these days.

Hi Mark,
To post your truck and accessarys Click on the "profile" link at the top of the page. There you can edit your preferences and type in your custom signature. Then after typing a message click on the box at the bottom of the page that says "show signature"

Mark, just remember where you got that info from, just one dealer, and most likely from one service writer who is most likely full of you know what. I have remote starters on both my 12 valves, they've worked fine for many years. I know others with 24 valves who have had no problem. Sounds like the same service writer who has been telling folks that the reason their truck pulls to the right is because the right hand pointing tailpipe pushes the truck's rear end to the left. Most likely yours isn't installed correctly.

Mark,
Ihave a 2000 2500 24 valve that i picked up the beginning of Oct. 1999. I had the starter put on the next day after picking up the truck. I have a code alarm unit in mine. The alarm / starter box went out once, where the alarm would start cycling while driving down the road , but that was an ionternal problem with the alarm. not a problem yet (KNOCK-ON-WOOD)... ...

See my sig, I am very pleased with the one I have. I think it depends on how good your installer is.

Just curious what brand/model you have?

I have never heard or seen of anything associated with this. It is most likely faulty equipment or poor installation.

I agree with illflem. I have yet to talk with anyone at DC dealership or direct, who wasn't dumb as rocks and full of I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER.

Sorry, I take that back. Blair, at some dealership in Canada, was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanx for the info. I guess I just thought they may know what they were talking about. I actually am picking the truck up tonight. DC says the map sensor kicked out in the code. I still can't figure out how that would apply to a remote starter???? They did not find a faulty sensor though.

It is interesting to know others have no problems. My brand is a IC Dynamics/Valiant model RS305. You know, mail order through aftermarker parts company. Unfortunately, I must fess up, I did the install myself. It worked for 2 times, then Sh-- the bed.

I have had my Avital Remote starter on since the week before Thanksgiving. I have put about 7500 miles on it and use it all the time. I haven't had a check engine light come on yet. It has been in twice for oil changes since then (both at the local Dodge Dealer) and they haven't made a comment to me.

Mark,I also have the RS305 on both my trucks only problem has been when I forget to plug in during cold weather,if I don't pay attention it will keep on trying to start the rig over & over till the batteries are dead. I did the installs myself and remember there were plenty of opportunities to mess up, there must have been at least 30 wires to connect,it may just be one wire in the wrong place that's giving you trouble.

Hey Illflem,

I agree. There are a lot of wires. What I did was download verification specific to a Dodge truck, correct wire harness colors. rs305 purple to dodge yellow solid, rs305 yellow to dodge bright baby blue, red to power crossover main inline cluster under hood, and the only thing I noticed I did incorrectly was route rs305 orange directly to A/C fuse on side of dash, instead of blk/org as it stated on web-site. Besides, a/c never came on after 30 seconds. It only worked twice.

I am real intersted if you used any auxillary ignition wires from rs305, as in something to the tachometer? This is what the tech told me to do that MAY help.
I would really appreciate any peace of mind you could give me. I would really love the convenience.
As for starting times, I found this model actually cranked just a red c---hair too long. That was when the engine was warm.

I have a Clifford on mine and I've never had any problems. I don't believe that this service guy knows what he's talking about.

Mark,I used every wire on the rs305,don't have the manual for it close by so I'd be pulling straws for the color code. You have to connect the tach wire though,it gives the signal to the 305 if the engine is running or not. You also have to flip a switch to diesel mode for this,on a gasser it gets the signal from a spark plug wire. I even hooked up the circuit on the 305 for opening the trunk so I can honk the horn with it. You can adjust the crank time with the included push button. I also downloaded the wiring diagram, but double checked with the manual and found a few wires weren't correctly colored.

Mark, I have the same starter as Quadzilla. Had Tweeter install it for me. Not one problem and i am loving it in the cold.

Good to see another Connectican around.

Mactruck,

From your sig, looks like you spent a few more bucks at tweeter!

What did that other model remote starter run you? I may have to discuss it with the installer, so they can assure me I will not have to send back to DC to fix Check Engine Light.

I had an Avital Avistart remote/alarm on my 1998 Ram 1500 4x4, installed by a friend who does it for a living... no problems. Find another DC dealer that has mechanics or service writers who are not in the habit of piling it higher and deeper when they don't know...
