Annual Maintenance Check List

Not one single engine oil filter in Europe ist prefilled.
No harm ist done to any engine by doin so, there ist enough residue oil in the System for start with a dry filter, every part of an engine can stand the 2 seconds ideling till full pressure is there.

I have a 2001 dodge one ton 4x4 with the cummins engine, I always fill the filter because the cooling for the turbo comes of the top of the filter housing this prevents the turbo bearing from failing due to lack of oil, also I only buy my oil in 20 liter buckets no foil to worry about, be careful and you wont have a problem,if you dont pre fill good by turbo.

Your Turbo should have plenty of residual oil in it, even after an oil change. Besides, you really don't spool up the turbo, upon initial startup, and once you get moving, everything should be at max pressure.

Happy New Year to @HBarlow wherever he is these days. Always enjoyed his compositional style.

Fill or don’t fill the oil filter beforehand. The OP was making a common sense recommendation to avoid trash getting into the oil system.

Yes, but it "Behooves Us" to over think every aspect and function of our trucks. :D

I have had the experience of starting a 466 CI diesel engine with the oil sender line disconnected after a oil change. (that engine has inverted filters that drain every time the engine is shut off) The engine was on a test stand and 70psi oil suddenly was squirting on the 14 foot ceiling of my shop. You are Not doing your engine any favors by pre filling the filters.

I don’t recall hearing that. I did a quick search for an obit and didn’t come up with anything viable.

I found this last night. There seems to be some discrepancies in the memorial text such as service record showing US Air Force instead of Navy.
On EDIT: Also, no mention of love of motorcycles and RVing...Too many missing pieces missing to be 100% sure; Internet rabbit holes and all...

I know he was in the South Plains of Texas. I found another site that mentioned he moved to West Virginia, so the location in the above site matches the additional info.

Hard to believe he has been gone from the TDR for so long. Seems like yesterday...Oh, the continuously increasing high angle and well lubricated slopes of time... What a ride!

RIP Harvey...

Thread subject matter:
The only time I "primed" an oil system was after major maintenance where we took a drill and hex shaft, plugged into the oil pump through the distributor hole of a 289HiPo to ensure al the oil passages had sufficient oil on initial startup. Popped the distributor in; lined it up to an approximated timing location and fired it up. Other than that, only one time attempting to pre-fill per "suggestions" once on my first CTD where a misplaced drop of oil on the outer filter case caused a finger-hand dance weaving the filter to its location and got most of the oil down my sleeve and spattered liberally on my face. No problems for many decades NOT pre-filling...no more pre-filling for me. Hundreds of thousand miles previously, and later, no issues.

Harvy was also on a GOLDWING Forum site for Honda motorcycles, if I remember correctly! Harvy and I had some great discussions in the past before he left TDR. He was and is one of the best on the TDR Forum than.

A couple of years ago, I was looking at the Northwood RV forum and remember seeing a post from Harvey. I found it again. Seems like I remember him calling his wife Tess. Nothing new there, as the post is pretty old. But, shows he left Texas for WV.

And VA instead of Texas.

Was he that old? That would have put him at 79 when he left the TDR.

EDIT: I found a post of post stating he was the class of 1960, which means he would have been born ±1942, so that obituary is very likley not his.

He was about 10 years older than I am so that more than likely is NOT him, (egg on my face) but links through artificial (non)intelligence programs seem to cross to a couple non-related individuals (Harvey T vs. Harvey M and cross-relating family members in obituary sites).

This site lists him joining the US Navy in 1960. It also has information that places my first link into a questionable status. We LOVE the internet...:(

Both of those look to be him.
