Warning, some graphic descriptions.
Last night, after picking up my girl from her musical practice, we needed to get some vitamins and fruit for her voice.
It was a typical night, she got out 30-40 minutes earlier than usual, so we were just taking our timing getting to WalMart.
As we sat in a left turn line, 3rd car back from the light, waiting for a green light to turn onto a 4 lane road.
I was watching cross traffic, while my girl was on the phone with her Mom.
It was 9:00pm, Thursday night. That's when I saw it, nothing to unusual, a car or two taking left turns (From southbound lanes) onto the road we were on. I noticed a truck, a kind that is only built in Mexico. A 1990 Ford 2wd F-150. They look just like a Suburban, but have only two doors, and no windows on the back. He made a "hurried" turn, almost like he had not really planned to turn, or did not know exactly where he wanted to go. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a north bound motorcycle. I new it would be close. The truck was going quickly for his turn,, maybe 20-30MPH, while the Motorcycle (Maybe a ~700cc Honda Cruiser type of bike), was traveling about 45MPH (Speed limit).
I could feel it was going to be a close call, but I changed my mind of the out come when the bike hit his brakes only 10' before where they would intersect. The motorcylcle, and rider collided with the truck directly at it's passenger side front wheel, completely knocking the entire front wheel and suspension underneath the truck. His head, and body hit the windshield, and A-Pillar of the truck.
I immediatly jumped out of my vehicle and ran to the vehicle closest to me, which was the pickup. He was completely unharmed, but in a daze, and before I could really slow from my sprint, I ran to the rider of the bike. As I approached him, thin blood started to pour from his helmet. I immediatly thought he was dead, but attempted to find a pulse. When I saw his wrist was not where it belonged, so I went for his other hand, and that wrist was only hanging from it's skin, with it's bone protruding out. It was then he started to breath. I tried calling 911, and by then there was 6-7 people standing around, and when there was no 911 answer, I looked up at people, and saw about 4 of them were trying to call 911. That was when one of the other guys standing around, saw his bike pouring fuel out onto the street, and the puddle was growing onto the rider. Two or three of the guys pulled the bike away from him. I could hear him struggling to breath when I noticed he was starting to drown in his own blood. About the time I grabbed his helmet (somewhat of a "bucket" type helmet, not a full face helmet), to hold his head up just ~1" or so to keep him from drowning, an officer pulled up, and radioed in to re-route traffic, and for what services we would need. I let his head down slightly to the side of where he was, and that's when he "came to" just enough to roll himself on his back. He was in bad shape, but not too disfigured. I could still make out his face. . He looked young, maybe 25 years old. Unconscious, but breathing, and the bleeding had slowed.
That was when somebody saw the riders cell phone on the floor and called his family members informing them of what had happened.
The Ambulance arived no more than a minute after the first officer arrived. They picked him up onto a stretcher and away he went in the Ambulance. I talked to one officer, and they wanted a witness for the accident, so I stayed and filled out a reprt for them.
I don't know how the rider made out, as he was still alive when the ambulance took him, and the driver of the other vehicle was in the back of a police car when we left.
If yall could say a prayer for that man. It appeared he would loose both hands, and maybe his foot when he recovers.
Just had to get this off my chest,
Merrick
