I was checking the spring length on my overflow valve (it was short) and saw that there are 3 small stacked washers that the spring sits on. Do these washers add to the length of the spring, or do I measure it to . 5 inch without them? Also, I dropped  the bigger washer that the bolt snugs down on. Was it steel or something else? I can't find it :{ . Live and learn!

the washer you lost should be copper to crush and seal properly. A good parts store that carries small parts or a truck shop with parts house should be able to supply you with one. block off the hole with something to keep dirt from getting in there and take your o/f parts with you to insure you get the right size washer. The spacers under the spring are to compensate for spring tension at seated position. I stretch mine and leave the spacers in there.

Hope this helps

Thanks Heepdriver. That bugger had stuck to the pump with paint, and while I was sticking the bolt back in, it fell off. I didn't even get to see it. I think I have an entire spare part store hiding in my engine and suspension!

There are gremlins that hide in those dark places and are just waiting. Your not the first and won't be the last. always stuff a rag in this area to catch the small parts It'll shut you down instantly. Advise::; read twice and do once

[I allways remove this from the engine to work on it]

MLee, you are right! I didn't even think about it because "it was so easy to get to" :-laf . Apparently, also so easy to get away! Of course, then I'd have to remember to remove the rag. I read one of these threads where someone forgot to take the rag out of his air filter hose. Sucked it through the turbo and POOF! no turbo.
