What are some signs of impending injector failure?

CARB compliance sticker? HELP

Definitely NOT General Motors. My jobber account shows a sort line of info that I did not expand. Only first two letters visible, but I strongly suspect was GMB. Regarding an earlier post that the best is not always domestic and the worst not always Chinese/Asian/offshore: it is about how you do your QA/QC and what you are willing to pay. With the advance of finance into business over here, the WalMart model has passed the Costco business model and maximizing profit by people who are financiers, not manufacturing or business background means do whatever it takes to put your brand name on the cheapest box you can find. The dwindling number of companies run by entrepreneurs and business people have the sense to seek out capable and willing suppliers (for a premium relative to the cheaper options) and put their OWN QA/QC people in place - usually expatriates. If you don't do that, the numbers will drift as Asian culture is all about results, not the process and there is always another greedy *******...err Business School PhD...who will step up to the plate for a little less $$$. COVID may be our saviour in this manner since the risks of unsecure supply chain that would be obvious to a business person takes decades to sink into the mindless idiots who come from banking/finance - mostly since they make their $$$ from the stock option and M&A side, not the operational aspects of company.

I think you need a Snickers....
Thanks, I'll take that. How can you tell I am in the middle of sorting supplier issues? Used to be as a small business or startup you were seen as a potential new growth opportunity. Now, you are nothing but an inconvenience that won't put a bonus into the supplier's guy's pocket this month.

Been away on a job, so sorry did not conclude. I bought my pump, idler and thermostat from Cummins (they are all Cummins parts) and the water pump is made in Italy. Old pump HAD been replaced, bearings were tight but it was leaking a fair bit (as in top up once a week). Belt had a scar, so bought belt and antifreeze from Chrysler (they had NO thermostat in stock!!!). Cummins guy gave me a serious warning about the thermostats, so I took his advice (think I mentioned that already). Was very surprised to see a fair bit of corrosion product inside of the cooling system. Test drive went well, now to deal with transmission issues (NV5600 synchros bad).

Progress.

I just did a full hose and coolant R&R on my 2005 yup even the little blue ones but heater hoses were the most difficult to get to. I have a newish Gates 33915 in it and see a few degrees swing as it opens and closes. CAUTION I did have a weep from T-stat seal and wound up using a seal from a NOS Gates 180 deg to cure weeping. Have not had it under towing just round town driving.

Syncro's or a lazy hydraulic system? Syncro's bad news, hydro's easy to TEST and confirm condition and trans stays in chassis.

I have the original thermostats in my two trucks, haven't had any reason the change them. Still on the original radiator and hoses in my 3rd gen. Thought about replacing them, but they still look and feel fine. Surprisingly that plastic and aluminum radiator has been very durable for its age, the 03 truck only has 112K on it though. Water pump is original on the old 95, but the OEM radiator only made it to around 80K and started leaking in multiple places.

Just dropping a sample of my experience down.

I bought my 03 with 207K on it. Shortly after getting it home I ordered and installed a Gates belt and tensioner kit and for some reason an AC Delco water pump (P/N: 252318). All this because I didn't have any records of when it had been done last and it seemed like good preventative maintenance given the miles on the truck. No issue with the gates kit but the AC Delco pump is now leaking pretty bad about to spit bearings with 32K miles on it.

I'll take it apart when I swap it out to check out what was used to build it but I'm probably going to go with a Gates pump from Genos. 200.00 for a New Cummins pump is a hard swing, at least with fuel prices now. If they're as good as others say; I'll more than likely pick up a used low mileage one as a back up for the road. Not at all hard to change.

Just installed a Gates tensioner/belt kit on a co workers 01 LS430 and it had NTK Japan bearings, FWIW I've had a lot of success with Gates products on my home fleet and client's cars.

My last one was a Gates water pump and a Gates belt tensioner. Probably all made in the same factory, just different levels of quality control. Like my 12 Valves mechanical fuel pump, I can't tell a difference between the Cummins part and the "Carter" aftermarket versions. But the light weight suckers leak much quicker than the old ones. My Mopar replacement water pump from the dealer leaked out of the weep hole around 30K miles I think. The Gates pump has outlasted the Mopar replacement by a good bit now. Truck is running a Zerex light yellow long life coolant now, maybe that helped the Gates pump last longer. Not sure what that dark orange stuff was, it didn't look right to me. Looked like the dealer in Kansas mixed some red and orange together, weird color.

Gates WP's are classified as "Get Home" items. When you get home go to Cummins and get the WP from them, that seems to be the safest way to go. You can keep the Gates item for backup.
lost my 2003 oem pump at 51K miles. renewed it with an oem pump for a 6.7. runs cooler on the tow and does not leak. a bit of product improvement there. the original pump spewed coolant everywhere when the shaft seal failed, eh, it was time to renew the hoat coolant anyway.
