Yesterday I test drove a new '05 with a 325/610 HPCR engine. The water temp was at 190 and the oil pressure was about 20# at idle. Does this seem normal??? My 99 ISB with 182K miles never runs that warm unless I am working it and the oil pressure on my old girl is a minimum of 30# at idle. Maybe the new truck was about 4 qts low on oil :-laf I didn't check it because I wasn't buying that particular truck anyhow.

Thanks,

Paul

Sounds normal compared to my '05. My '05 normally runs around 195 - 200*, cruising and not working too hard. She will go to 205* working hard. The new engines run hotter... EGT and water temp - I think it is for emissions crap.

The oil pressure sounds about right too. At idle, mine is about 15 - 20# with the engine temp at normal. About 45# cruising down the road.

The oil pressure guage in the 3rd gens is nothing more then a computer controlled idiot light. The only way to adequatly check oil pressure is to do so manually. What the computer is feeding that guage is what you "expect" to see based on various RPM. I believe it works like that even if theres only 5 pounds of pressure present. Alot of threads on this subject.

when i give the engine a good run, i'll have about 15psi oil pressure on the filter head, and once the oil cooler does its work, the oil pressure stablizes at about 22psi... this morning it was ±42psi at startup. temp was -2°C outside. .
