Using Zaino's

So if using Zaino's, do you have to purchase the Flash Cure Accelerator Additive along with the wax? And the Z2 would be the was flavor to get? How important is the car wash (their wash Z7)?

No, you don't have to get the Flash accelerator. It does help the Z2 or Z5 cure faster in high humidity though. Last Sat I did 3 coats of Z5 w/flash accelerator in about 80% humidity. Each coat was dry in 40min, if I did'nt use the flash accelerator each coat wuold have taken couple of hours. The humidity just slows the cure time, I have left the stuff on overnight and it still wiped off very easy.

I like the car wash. It helps to replenish the Z2 wax coating and UV protection. Between the wash soap and the Z6 Ultra clean gloss enhancer the truck appears to have been just waxed every time. The Z6 is also useful on the wax applicator to moisten it before you put the wax on the applicator. The flash cure is also highly recommended.

I waxed my truck this morning. I just used some of the Meguiars gold class that I had. Meguiars goes on very easy and comes right back off. Wash and wax took 2 hours. With all the talk about zainos, I think I might look to get some for the next coat that I put on.

I just went out and counted 9 different wax types, 3 polishing compounds and 12 or so washups/cleanup products lined up on my shelf. Most have never been opened. Only one Meguiars NXT has ever been used. I used mr clean to wash it once and the Meguiars NXT to wax. It was easy on and easy off. That was nine months ago. The paint streaks and scratches so easy that I just don't bother anymore. Go through the $6 express wash every two weeks or so. I need a 6" ladder to reach everything and it just isnt worth it. I do plan to take it to a professional detailing shop soon and have it done. I will do this once a year on purchase date, figure that will do the trick.

My wax

NuFinish...comes in the orange bottle. They claim the once a year car wax... . but I do it twice a year... once in the spring and another before the long drive to Ely, MN in the middle to end of summer. Dad has used it for years and so has grandfather. Works for me.

I have been using Eagle's new "tech" wax. It puts a great shine on, but doesn't last more than a month. I have used Mothers, Maguires, Zymol etc and they are all about the same.

I like the new Eagle wax because it doesn't leave any white stuff on the black plastic or rags. It comes off easily and doesn't dust up everything.

I had to chime in on this, because I see so many owners spend so much time and money maintaining their CTD's, and do little or nothing to keep them looking good. I read so many people comment about the money they spend on these trucks and upgrades and wonder why that is. When you go to sell/trade your truck, the first impression to the buyer is how it looks when they/you drive up.

Don't get me wrong, I have done many upgrades to my CTD to make sure the motor/drivetrain is performing flawlessly and am meticulous about maintenance intervals. I just prefer that it look as good as it runs.

I typically wash my truck once a week and detail it monthly. I spend an average of 80hrs a month behind the wheel, so I like it to look good inside and out.

Today I tried out that new Armor All "Wax as you Dry Gel" on my wife's Civic. It's certainly not as good and durable as a traditional wax on, wax off type wax, but it's super-easy to apply and gives a good shine. For those of us who don't like to spend hours on end waxing the behemoth, it might be convenient to apply this stuff at each wash to keep a shine until the next "big" wax job.

I'm going to continue to apply it on the Civic and see what happens over time.

Waxing has been a waste of time and money for my truck. Several times over the years I've waxed one side of the hood with a quality wax and a month later I couldn't tell which side had been waxed. I don't wax any more. My opinion is that waxing is a hold over from the 'olden days', when the paint was much lower quality, and is only worth while for shows.

My truck is black, and when washed, still has a nice overall shine. It has pleanty of small scratches from off roading, but no rust.

I just used a clay bar and Speed Shine from Griots Garage (not affiliated) Good stuff there.

Topped it off with Mothers Carnuba.

Going to look into Zainos. :)

Sell? Trade? Not my baby. So it only matters to me what it looks like. I wash once a month, wax once year with whatevers in the garage (yeah, I accumulate a bunch of stuff too). I can't wait till it gets a few dings. My Jeep, well why bother waxing, I'll just rub the paint off on the rocks anyway :)

For anyone who hasn't tried the Zaino products yet, I give my thumbs up as well.

Here is what I did this afternoon:

Dawn Wash

Zaino Clay Bar

Dawn Wash

Buff with machine and very fine abrasive compound

Dawn Wash

Zaino Z-5

Zaino Z-8 Detailer

Zaino Z-5

Zaino Z-8 Detailer

Zaino Z-2

I'm gonna finish it up tomorrow with another coat of Z-8. It looks better and deeper than new. The Zaino is pricey, but totally worth it. I really liked the easy removal as well.

Here's what I use - and used on the '91 pictured below, I buy it by the gallon jug, and use it on all our vehicles. That truck pictured had over 100Kmiles on it when that pic was taken.

If you're interested in seeing a test done with Zaino, Meguiars, and Perfex wax/polishes, check out the "Zaino wax test" section in the Webshots pointer in my sig below...

Use a half-dozen diffrent products, and then apply layer after layer, sometimes on a daily or weekly basis?

You GOTTA be kidding! :-laf :-laf :-laf

I've used the Zip Wax in the past and I also think it's a pretty good product. Certainly no replacement for a true wax, but does seem to give a very nice shine.
