Cp3 loose???

Crazy 48 build

When the CJ oil came out and the ZDDP issue was revealed, which was very real, people were scrambling to buy up all the CI they could find. I’m with John, I have NEVER heard anyone but an oil rep, or someone that was gullible enough to believe the “newer has to be better” line and didn’t know what they were talking about, say that CJ was better than CI. I’ve seen pictures and been told by very reputable, long-time engine builders, of severely worn cams and tappets, especially in high HP engines, from the decreased ZDDP content in the CJ oil.

I say good riddance to CJ.

As to what I use in my engine, I’ve been running Schaffer Supreme 7000 for over 400K miles.

Just went out back and dug up an old jug.

Just in case.

Schaeffer's 7000 met the CJ4 spec until CK4 was rolled out.

At least I'm in good company :D

I didn’t say it wasn’t CJ. All I said was CJ wasn’t better than CI.

I get it from a friend that builds Yamah FJ1200 engines for the Legends race cars. He only use the Schaeffer Supreme 7000. He buys it by the pallet.

Anybody running Amalie or Wolfshead oil?

This carries CES20081 which some say Cummins frowns upon.
I’m so confused!

Real world results speak for themselves, Wayne. Naysayers are gonna naysay. You are one of the best candidates for this question, what does your department use and how has it worked for them?

I use the results of my company's experiences which is factory recommended intervals and whatever cheap fleet spec oil they can get the best deal on by the drum (usually Rotella T3). Lots of 10,000+ hr examples in my fleet. The sky has yet to fall over here. Yet :)

I do find it ironic that an oil spec that requires ISB and ISM specific tests to address the very differences that separate it (CJ4) from CI4 AND it manages to outperform the previous spec is touted as an inferior oil. Kinda odd.

.
All I know is it’s a bulk 15/40 dropped by a dealer who sells Mobil. I’ve even signed for it, but it’s a shaded invoice. I can only read the volume and grade. We get bulk engine oil and AW32 hydraulic oil.
The EO has been great and gets used in everything unless it’s a light vehicle. No failures in any heavy item related to an oil issue. I would assume it would have to meet the newest Mack spec, because they honor their warranty.

Probably Mobil Fleet, we had all Mobil products for around 15 years before switching to Shell products.

This is what we used to get

https://www.mcpetro.com/features/mobil-2/diesel-engine-oils/mobil-fleet-15w40/

And what we now get

https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/products/other-heavy-duty-products.html

It was a bean counter decision as I understand it. We had really good results with all the Mobil stuff.

If you have 2018 and newer equipment it probably calls for CK4, I don't know if you can get that in Mobil Fleet. The next step up is the Delvac 1300 so that may be what you're getting now. Our newest rig is 2017 which calls for 20081 spec so we are still using T3.

Walmart now carries a new Rotella 15W40 T6 Synthetic, thinking of switching to it from the 5W40 T6
I've been using Rotella T6 5W40 since it was introduced in the early 2000's with good success and no issues for the 1999 in my signature, but I'm going to switch to the new 15W40 for my next oil change too! Coming up soon in July! Thanks for the post!!!!

I was using Chevron Delo 400 15w-40 CI-4+ , Now my supply is gone. I have read all the posts which I thank everyone for, From what I have gleaned from it all the comments is reduced to this below. I know it if I re-read everything I might come up with a slight change as I would imagine there are other decent oils, but I need to stop over studying the subject and just change my oil.

It appears I have 2 choices either go with the Summit / Lucas Long Drain Truck Oil 10077 which is CES 20078 = CI or the Valvoline Premium Blue 8600 ES Heavy Duty SAE 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil which is CES 20086 = CK its backward compatible. Am I correct that the CK will be best for my low mileage 2005 engine ?? Thanks

adiver, I never knew about the Lucas 10077. I gotta buy some Lucas hot rod oil for my Duster, maybe I’ll get a case of that too!

Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40 and forget about it. Available everywhere, Cummins recommended, and a top oil.

I would not EVER use Lucas oil in anything I liked and wanted to keep. Valvoline PB in the diesels, Royal Purple in the hot rods and sleep easy.

I haven't used Rotella in years. Does it still stink when freshly changed?
I haven't noticed much Stink with Rotella.... Now Years back I got a case of Mack 15-40 that oil had a nasty odor.
I just switched to Chevron DELO wally world had it on a roll back special synthetic blend was 2/3 the price of Rotella

Want to expand on this ?. What is the downfalls of Lucas, inquiring minds would like to know.

As far as WHAT I do not know what it is. In practical application what I have tried for their lubricants has not been impressive for typical street driven vehicles.

Ok narrowing down my choices down to Valvoline Premium Blue 8600 ES Heavy Duty SAE 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil vs the Shell Rotella T5 Cummins CES 20086 my truck has low miles I only drive about 3000 miles per year and change my oil & filter yearly. I know I don't drive enough to use a Synthetic But it appears I can get the Shell Rotella T5 Cummins CES 20086 for the same price as the Valvoline Premium Blue 8600 ES Heavy Duty anyone using the T5 ?

Narrowing down my choices to Valvoline Premium Blue 8600 ES Heavy Duty SAE 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil and or the Shell Rotella T5 Cummins CES 20086 as the both seem to be good oils, both meet cummins spec CES 20086 Truck has low miles I only drive about 3000 miles per year and change my oil & filter yearly. The worst thing is the short trips, I usually drive about 7 to 10 miles till the temp gauge shows normal operating temp. I know I don't drive enough to use a Synthetic But it appears I can get the Shell Rotella T5 Cummins CES 20086 for the same price as the Valvoline Premium Blue 8600 ES Heavy Duty anyone using the T5 ?
