And when you do need them, how much do brand new ones cost? My last set of new Bosch injectors cost less than one for your engine. The point, for the OP, is that maintenance costs for the newer trucks have sky rocketed. Although the 2018 3500 duelly is only roughly twice the price of my '97 the cost of maintaining it is about triple when used in a commercial setting. While I can do just about anything to keep mine on the road, or even just a patch job to get me home, that isn't the case with a vehicle that sports two or three computers. For example there is the TIPM http://www.dodgeproblems.com/trends/tipm/

Yeah. My buddy who had a 97 (or was it 98?) 12v laughed at my "drive by wire" 2013. He said his ran even after the computer blew. More mechanical (rather than electrical) parts and systems.

But my girlfriend and I like the comfort of the new trucks when traveling and the ability to actually hear each other.:-laf

When that word Girlfriend is changed to wife, you will appreciate all the noise in the cab that you can get........

My wife and I have no problem hearing each other. She doesn't like the ride when we don't have the 5er hooked up though. When my PCM voltage regulator circuit quit working while in WA I bought an old style Ford VR, hooked up three wires and kept driving. When I did get back home I swapped in a spare PCM that I paid $100 for and haven't had a glitch with it yet. If I do, I have two more I paid less than $200 a piece for sitting on a shelf.

I am not denying what you say has validity to it.....it is just that you came across as hpcr engines will need multiple sets (and sets is the word you chose) in order to make it 400k miles.

That is an incorrect generalization.....and that is all I was attempting to illustrate. :D

My error. I was under the impression that multiple injection type injectors wear out a lot quicker than the single injection event of 12 valve injectors.

Aren't parts for a 20 year old truck becoming harder to find?

A few are, like door seals and such. I'm hoarding a couple PCMs because they have bee unavailable for about 10 years. For the most part though, parts are easy to find. Then again, "easy" is relative. Hard is finding parts for the '54 Ford I'm restoring. It has a one year only 239 ci V8 engine that came with two different style fuel pumps. Mine has the one no one carries.

Thanks, that is the easy one to find. Mine is a duel action, fuel pump/vacuum pump for the wiper motor.

That I might need. My brother also has a '54 Skyliner, but his runs. He sent me a rebuild kit, but I haven't opened the box because I'm not that far yet.

He came and left yet again without divulging the critical answer of speed and gear.
In fifth gear, I
  • turn more rpm than a 3.42 truck with 31.7 inch OD tires
  • turn less rpm than a 4.10 truck with 31.7 inch OD tires
In sixth gear, I
  • turn more rpm than a 3.42 truck with 31.7 inch OD tires
  • turn less rpm than a 4.10 truck with 31.7 inch OD tires

You guys can go here https://www.ringpinion.com/calculators/Calc_RPM.aspx and use 31.7 inch OD tires and 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10 ratios with .63 6th, .77 5th, and 1.0 4th ratios.

2014 Laramie Longhorn, we like our creature comforts! That includes the 2016 44' Voltage toy Hauler, 2012 Can-Am Spyder Limited, 2009 Harley, wife's mobility scooter, grill and smoker, etc.
4.10 gears with Aisen 6 speed. We don't travel over 63 MPH except for very short periods because factory trailer tires are not rated for more. Have seen too many blow outs that damaged trailers. Staying at 63 or less allows me to get 10 mpg. except in mountains. Staying below 65 on the highway when not towing gets me 20 mpg. We take our time when traveling, and enjoy the country side.

How can he answer a question like that? His load will vary each and every time, so will his roads, night or day, city or highway, freeway or two lane, plus he no doubt has three different hitches that he uses.....do ya get the picture yet:)? My guess is he uses every single gear, every single day from 0-75 mph. I am pretty sure he don't save nor skip/waste any gears.
