What mud tires do you like?

Ok its time for new rubber..... Currently I have BFG M/T and they were OK, but i am looking for better. I liked the Super Swamper SSR's but I was told by a friend they are really loud! So I guess its back to the drawing board for me so any input would be great. Here is what I would like.



285/75/16

Aggressive tread

Low road noise

Radial

Load E (or at least D)

Good wear

Good road traction



I have run different BFG's and been happy. I have run Goodyears and hated them! I looked at the Yokohama Tires Geolandar M/T but the load rating was C.

I dunno Doug, I run the BFG mudder KO's and everyone swears that "Oh man I had those and they are so loud!" Damned If I can hear them over the engine sound never the less exhaust and turbo LOL!



Yeah SSW's are louder but I ask How much louder??

My Kelly Safari M/T's were a pretty good tire. Decent in the rain, snow, mud & not too loud. Load rating on 255/85 are D.

I had a set of SSR's and they were not that loud until they start to get below half tread. Very good all around tire.

Toyo mudders-- E rated, quiet, indestructibly tough.



They are my next tire, period. Both 285 and 315 sizes are E rated. .

MUD??????.....

What is MUD I am very confused here can ya help me out there Doug?. Don't like the Blimp Tires eh I can understand that but the new Wrangler M/T's are a sweet looking tire. Let me know when you going out this week and I'll let you drive mine with the Firestone Destination M'T's in size 285/75/R16. I have had them on now for 20,000 miles and they still ride as nice as they did when they were properly balanced by Dave at Kauffman's,LOL. The first guy who did them I think was blind or did a little too much tire balancing and his eyes were shaking when he read the machine for the weights. Needless to say after I picked it up my eyes were shaking too and I was glad Dave fixed them up... . Andy

I got 64,000 miles out of my set of Cooper Discoverer S/T's which I took off in favor of the Bigger 'Stones. With them having a new more agressive style tire,The Discoverer ST,out now I'd be inclined to go back and try them next time. Below is a link to them and the 'Stones on mine.

I had Remington Mud Brutes on another previous NON-CTD truck, they were a really good Mud Tire for the $$$.



Also try Mastercraft Courser M/T's I have them on my old 79 Chevy K20 and they are AWSOME!

Stick w/ your BFGs. They are indestructable. I got 50,000 miles out of them. Great on wet cement to. (I got rid of a set of super swamper thornbirds because they etremly unsafe on wet roads. ) The BFGs do not flatspot like the super swampers and ground hawgs do. They are the only tire for mud/cement. I'm on my third set.

I have been running the BFG Muds on all types of trucks for 15 years. I have also run swampers, off brand, and even procomps. The bfg if rotated every 6k religously will be the quiestest and longest lasting mud tires. I will run them until someone can do better. The only problem I have is the D rating. I wish I could get a E rated 35" mud tire!!!!!

Consider the Toyo's. They are very quiet, and like any mud tire, needs to be rotated often on these trucks.

The MTR's wear out way too fast. The BFG's are good, I've run them on other vehicles, but not this truck.

E rating, no other is a must for me.

I love the way mud (aggressive) tires look on a truck, and the two trucks I have now both sport BFG Mud KO's. BFG makes great tires, they have stiff sidewalls and the tread rubber is very hard. This makes for a long wearing tire, 40-50K miles is not uncommon with the BFG's. They do however ride a little stiff, this may or may not be an issue.

On my Dodge, I also run the Trxus MT's with Alcoa Hotshot wheels. These tires look great and are made of softer rubber, which accounts for the very smooth ride. Not sure about how much mileage I will get out of them, but so far they are wearing well and very even. The Trxus tires look very aggressive, and the combo really seems to turn alot of heads. I can not go anywhere with them on that I do not have someone commenting on them. Noise, truthfully I fine the BFG's and Trxus tires quite. The BFG's on my Ford do make some noise, but on the Dodge I do not hear anything. One of the worst tires for wear has to be the super swamper's, and beside them the Mickey Thompson Baja Claws and Thorn bird's. Good Year has a nice tire with there MTR, but it is very noisy. The biggest problems with off-brand or cheap mud tires is the amount of weight needed to balance them. Many are so far out that they simply can not be bring into balance (I have seen as high as 24 oz out of balance). Speaking of balance, the best thing you can buy for your truck is the Centramatic wheel balancers, they work great.

I had BFG M-T's on my gasser Ford, before putting on the '86. They are pretty quiet. Can't even really hear them in town with the windows down. I really like them.



Have Cooper S/T's on the Ram. Never had a problem with traction in mud. Drive in the fields all the time.

Maxxis Buckshot Mudders - running 'em in 305/70/17 on my truck. Come siped from the factory, great traction onroad and off, noise is about equivalent to BFG (can't hear 'em over the engine), cheaper than the others, too...
