I use, and have used the Amsoil Full Synthetic oils in all my vehicles, and have done for over 20 years.

My current truck now has over 80,000 miles, with the same oil in it since April 2003, and had 8,700 miles on the engine when installed. I do have the oil By-pass system, and do oil analysis every 10,000 miles. Last analysis showed the oil was still in good condition, and only had 0. 2 percent SOOT, and the Viscosity was in the middle of the SAE requirements for a 40 grade oil.

Very cost effective!

Valvoline premiun blue classic . Cummins approved for 5. 000 miles in ISX-ISM ENGINS ON HIGHWAYS this is the oil that is endorsed by cummins engine company. I have ran this oil from day one all oil test has came back very good. go to valvoline web site and check it out for your own good.

valvoline permium blue 5-40w full synth. use abit here and there, ran rotella 5-40 used no oil, just trying to stay with CI-4plus where i can find it.

I guess you didn't read my post correctly. I said I had added 5 Quarts since installing. No, it does not leak.

Best regards,

Wayne

No, I read it correctly. I assumed the 5 quarts was only to refill the new filters.

I usually run Rotella 15,000 miles with no filter changes. However, I once ran it 25,000 miles with 2 filter changes and it took 3 make up quarts ... ..... and yes, mine leaks at 485,000 miles.

To fill you in a bit, I filter the used oil from the By-pass filter through a paint strainer, and put it back in the the new By-pass filter before I install it. The only oil that comes out of the filter is on the filtered side through the large opening where the filter screws on the base.

I'm posting a thread on Bob the oil guys site. let you know what they say over there. .

Well . . . there's a flaw in your study.
If you have a PRE '07 ( a 5. 9) you should be using CI-4 plus oil (if you can find it).

Unfortunately you didn't ask the posters to specify if they are using the
CI-4 plus spec oil (without CJ spec) - or the backwards compatible CJ oil.

The guys saying they were using xxxxx brand since they were in diapers
are probably not using the same oil they did before - if it indicates it meets the newer (CJ) spec. Check the "donut" - -
If it says CJ - it ain't your grandfathers Oldsmobile!

Beneficial additives were required (Feds) to be removed for the CJ spec oils - but are still OK -and preferable- for the earlier engines.

To avoid using previous CI-4 plus spec oil in newer engines - the oil companies made their oils backwards compatible so you can't screw up.
Unfortunately, for those of us with pre '07 engines - newer doesn't mean better.

You can find the same info on the Bob site - and over several issues of the TDR mag.

As to your question: for my '05 -

Prior to the CJ spec - Dello 400 15-40, CI-4 plus.

Used Valvoline Classic Prem Blue 15-40 CJ (briefly) when no CI-4 plus (only) was available. All the Valvoline Classic Prem Blue around here is CJ oil.

Found a Cummins OTR truck repair that still had Dello 400 15-40 CI-4 plus
(only. - NO CJ spec) in 5 gal pails.
The parts guy claims Chevron has re-released the *Non*- LE Dello again,
or maybe he just had a lot in stock from "way back when".
Either way is just fine with me.

Good luck with your (slightly skewed) poll results.

AMSOIL AME 15W40 and HDD 5W30 are strict CI-4+ oils, not compromised in TBN as CJ-4 oils are. This is why I continue to run AME in my 2002 CTD.

Delo 400 15-40 422650 miles on the 2000 2500 4x4 sample at each change and change filter at same time used 1 qt in 7000 miles no problems at all.

Amsoil Inc. announced today, they have just introduced a "new" 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel oil (DME) with a CJ-4 rating, along with a re-formulated 5W-40 CJ-4 oil (DEO). Both of these oils have a recommended drain interval of 3 times the OEM recommendation. They are still manufacturing the 15W-40 CI-4 PLUS Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine oil (AME) as well, and will continue to make this oil available as long as there is a demand for it.

These two oils, the DEO, and the DME are new to the market, and are using a totally different technology in oil formulation.
