Well it's time to replace the tires on my 05. The original Michilens have about 50,000 on them. I was wondering if it would be worth the hassle of resetting the speedo to put a bigger than stock size on to help mileage? Would that also help the ride be smoother? If you would recommend putting bigger tires on where can I get the speedo corrected?

worth the hassle of resetting the speedo?

yes

bigger than stock size on to help mileage?

larger tire did help my MPG on the highway

help the ride be smoother?

depends on the tire

where can I get the speedo corrected?

A good dodge dealer

I really like my 285/75/17's -- 34inches tall

Thanx for the replies. What brand and size do you recommend for best mileage and smooth ride? I was not very impressed with the ride of the OEM Michelins or maybe it has more to do with the suspension? I hope it doesn't have to be a good dodge dealer to change my speedo cuz I'm not impressed with my local one.

toyo 285/75/17

low cost, good wieght rating, tall for MPG

what he said. it's an A/T tire.

probably the best all around size out there in my opinion. i'm getting these as soon as my 295/70/17 M/T wear out. they released this size about a week after i bought my currents.

no lift necessary. not even close to necessary.

you probably won't like the suspension in your truck ever..... until you go with at least some better shocks and then maybe some 2 inch leveling coils.

I chose to stay with the stock size (265/70/17E) so the spare would still fit (I did not want to buy five new tires). I went with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, and the ride is significantly smoother, supposedly due to the Kevlar belts. Great traction, low noise, and good wear so far (about 10,000 miles). I am very happy with them.

I would guess that tire pressure has more to do with the ride than anything. Do you know where you had the Michelins? Do you know what the Goodyears are inflated too?

I have the Wrangler silent armor ATs in a 285/70-17D and like them quite a bit. Good choice for where you live too. I have found the winter traction to be excellent.

I have the front at 60 lb and the back at 50 lb. My driveway is about a mile long and all dirt so I get tired of bumping up it at 10 mph. Does Costco sound like good place to buy new tires? I appreciate all the advice.

For fuel mileage I think 265/75-17E would be ideal... a little taller and the same width as stock. Does anyone make one?

I have a friend that I met on this site who has 32,000 miles on his stock Michelins and they're worn out. I have the Rugged Trails with the same mileage with lots of rubber left. I told him to get his alignment checked and start driving like the old man that he is. :-laf

i agree with the tire pressure thing. and it's different for the brands of tires. of the three brands of tires i had on my 2nd gen, i ran em all at different pressures to obtain the same ride/feel.
