I know Dodge did away with the CAD in the late 2nd Gen's, but what year? I'm wanting to replace my passenger side axle shaft with a one piece, and I was wondering if I can get one cheaper than EMS Off-Road @ $265 + S&H? Anybody know where I could find an OEM out of a non-CAD axle, and if it would work with my 97 D60?

As BILLVO said they dropped the CAD with the 2001. 5 trucks (when they went to rear disk). I question that it will work for you as the axle shaft seal in trucks with a CAD is located just outside of the CAD. On truck without the CAD the seal will be located next to the ring carrier just like the drivers side. The non-CAD passenger shaft will not have a seal ware surface to run on and thus will not seal the shaft.

I believe I have a cad I also have rear disk brakes. That overgrown sleeve on the passenger axel with vac hoses going to it?

I have rear discs and the CAD. So do the 2002 trucks that I have seen. I think the change was in the 2003 model year. When they went to third gen bodies I believe the CAD was dropped.

my 79 ramcharger had full time front axle, just transfer case disc. then my 85 has the slide joint on the axle but I also added manual lock out hubs, so the wheels would not have to turn the front diff. and leaving them locked in the few winter months was just like factory. It seems they went backwards and got rid of something that was used for 40+ years. Less parts for them, more ware & tear & fuel usage (to turn axles) for us. I love my new diesel, however if it had normal 4x4 lockouts I would be happy.

Mine is a january 02 build and no CAD. I wouldn't consider mine an 02. 5, Not sure what month is considered the . 5 year break:confused:

2002 Jan build ( Mexico truck and Eng ) Came with a CAD

2002. x is the 'x' by calender month or by Start of model year?

in january 02 they dropped the cad. i was looking to buy an 02 and searched the inventory on the lot and noticed that the dec and earlier build dates had the cad, and the jan ones didnt.

this was important to me as i did not want the cad.

I have a March 02 and it doesn't have a CAD. The axle won't work in one with a CAD. Wrong spline count. I found this out when I bought the ARB for the front.
