Got a chance to buy an 01 Reg cab 4x4 with 300K miles, runs and drives good, body in good condition. What do you guys think it is worth? book shows 8900. 00, this seems way to high to me.

Around here you add value for a reg cab. With a clean interior, paint and a straight body I'd put that in the ballpark of 8-9k. In rough but straight condition 6-7k

Is it an 01 or an 01. 5?

Front end is definitely a concern especially if it is original. I would also want some kind of idea of whether the fuel pressure had been monitored or not. There really is no way of knowing how close you are to needing a new VP44 unless is was just exchanged with receipt. I personally would prefer the 01 over the 01. 5. The rear disks are "probably" a bit better than the drums (I personally don't see anything wrong with rear drums on a truck), but there were about 12 cosmetic items that got dropped when going to the 01. 5.

I got my quad cab with 230k for $8500 and spent another $1000 on ball joints before delivery in fall 07. Came with madds ecm, gauges, south bend clutch, steering box & dss, custom bumpers & repainted, amsoil in everything, rv275, etc.

The fuel psi gauge been on for the last 100,000 miles - never under 10 psi & the vp pump board crapped out (from heat, vibration or mosture) so I got another $2000 repair.

Everthing else (repairs) was minor (waterpump, tstat) for the past 2 years since I purchased it.

Neat truck. Enough miles to lower the price, but should still have a good life left. I would focus on the quality of oil, it is clean? My has 320K on it and the oil will stay clean for 2,000+ miles after an oil change. Indicates overall care from the previous owner... the rest will be "normal" maintenance, some stuff just cost more to fix than other stuff.

In general (IMHO) any high mile truck should be owned by a guy that can do a bit of mechanical work, because they all need "this-n-that" on a regular basis and constant invoices from the Dodge dealer will break you fast!

Well, I got me an 2nd Gen now! Truck runs great, has some play in the steering wheel, but overall drives great for 300k.

Now guys need advice on what I need to do to it, no fuel press. gauge , guess I need this first, guy I got it from put 50k on her, and said it has always run good(didn't know about lift pump probs) Only thing he has had done is front brakes & a sensor replaced other than reg. maintance. I opened oil cap with truck warm and no blow-by, oil and air filter are clean.

was lift pump put in tank as a warranty? See if you can get warranty history of vehicle. Check the track bar also it may cure the play in the steering. Mine is still tight after 140,000 and original. I put an electric fuel pressure guage on mine but it died recently and I need to trouble shoot it. I got it at Gemos.

I would definitely get a fuel pressure gauge to monitor lift pump pressures. At 140k I am on my 4th lift pump. I even lost a VP44 at 120k with maintained pressures.
