The other thing is they are looking for daily drivers that the average guy could have not hood stacked smoke pigs. It would be cool if they did a all out war test. Bring the baddest thing you got and see how it does.

I agree, Differant classes

Michael

A little off topic but J&H is going to do a all around competition at there event this year in Redding Ca. Bring the baddest thing you got. It will be drag, pull and dyno. Oo.

The trucks out there that might actually have a chance against Tomac are not even being talked about on this thread. I guess when some of you get a clue then we can talk. By the way I'll give you a hint... . They are from Northern Indiana and have an Auto transmission. The problem with the big dodges that actually have a shot is that they are 12 valve trucks and cant turn boxes down (like a common rail) for some parts of the competition to compete.

Enough of the internet hero stuff already!!  :-laf

Who are these trucks??

I just read the article, seems like a lot of these guys had no idea what they were doing and Tomac was the only one that knew what was going on. All of the congrats to him for winning, I am sure that all of his experience is paying off.

I think good candidates would have been auto's like: Terry Coppess, Mike Schinlaub, Chris Harness, Scott Amos to represent the Cummins side of things.

Of course this kind of falls in the category of what people have said. These guys would do awesome in the sled pulling and, probably the 1/8th mile trailer pull, but I think two of those might have an issue in the quarter mile drag race. (4. 88, and 5. 13's, just really make that engine wind out), and then the fuel economy run which of course didn't matter for points. One guy that has really got his truck running the last half of they year was Darren Smith, and he was still running the 3. 54's. I watched him beat coppess, schinlaub, amos, and tomac at the pull in summitville, of course be blew the stock axles out.

I figured you meant those guys, but I didn't consider they are from northern Indiana. LOL, unless everyone north of columbus is considered northern. :)

The only problem with Darren's truck is that its a manual and that would slow it down a whole bunch. Great running truck though.

Anywhere north of Indy is north. Anywhere south of Indy is south.

Darren runs an automatic. Truck has always been an auto.

Understood on the north. I didn't know if their were some trucks way up north or something.

I am not too sure what the Diesel Power! guys were thinking in picking two of the truck. The 95 from columbus has a good start but he should of known that hx40 was going to break, you would think that enterprise would have told him that. What is with the guy from florida that had twins and no head gasket of studs?

Rick

Keep in mind, the Diesel Power guys are gassers, writing about how cool Diesels are. I'm pretty sure, they didn't have time, resources, or know-how, to go over every applicant and decide whether he was going to blow a head gasket or pop a turbo.

This is going to be a long forum til the next Diesel Power! challenge gets here. Just gotta love all the suggestions and predicitions, its like ESPN before every game. :-{} :-laf :-laf

All this talk and some rookie will show up and win, that would bite everybodys ace :D :D

I've been to alot of truck pulls & have seen stock duramaxis get full pulls. I think it is mostly the Allison that gets it done. I am not saying that Tomac isn't responsible with his experience, but the Allison just makes it that much easier for a experienced puller. Congrats Tomac for the impressive Competition!

I agree. Makes me want to do a swap in. Not getting beat by the Duramax, but rather by the Allison 1000.

I wouldn't be too suprised to see a Dodge pulling truck with an Allison behind a cumminGs next season.

That is gonna happen sooner or later... . I can't wait to see the headlines... Cummins crushes Isuzu!!!!! :p :-laf

That would be cool. But... .

... can an Allison 1000 play with a P-pumped 12 valve? I know the big GM auto has a control module (TCM?) Is it a stand alone unit?

What really helps the allison is the 3. XX first gear. Their third gear is the 1. 41 compared to the 2nd gear in the dodge 1. 45, so pretty similar. 4th gear in the ally is the same as 3rd in the dodge. The new 68rfe has a 3+ first gear too though. Just hopefully you can hot rod the 6. 7

Allisons stink, buy a ZF, Tired of hearing about all these Allisons. Everybody thinks there the best it is just a name like CAT, John Deere, etc. Everybody talks something up over a name. I've been around some Allisons that where in buses and trucks when I was a diesel mechanic right out of high school. Most of the trans mechanics hated them Allisons and the problems they caused. If you want a Allison buy a Duramax, If you want a NV5600, 48re, g56, etc. buy a Ram or whatever. But dont think are Cummins need that Allison, just a built auto from a good shop have been very strong and reliable with fellows I know. But I dont know nothing I drive a 6spd. Just tired of all the "my crap dont stink on here"

Once again just my thoughts, so who cares :-laf :-laf :-laf

There just doesn't seem to be many dual threat dodges out there, most guys either pull great or drag race great, or they were just not not picked to compete with experienced dual threat ricer chevy diesels by the magazine dudes, anyone here that thinks they could have won that didn't get picked???
