I bought the unit that is for in cab use. All of my accessories are inside. I also have two electrical boxes that power my Isspro EV gauges that I would like to mount. Any ideas for a bracket that will fit under the dash? I have quite a bit of room where the clutch goes, because of the auto.

Thanks

I'm not sure if the '02s are like my '98 under the dash, but I'll assume they are. If you remove the knee bolster under the steering column, there is a metal cross brace. The bottom screws of the bolster screw into it. I fastend my Painless fuse block to this cross brace over to the right. The fuse block sits more or less vertical with the fuses facing you when the bolster is removed. This turned out to be a pretty handy spot. I'd have to remove the bolster on mine to check the details as it's been a while since I was under there.

As for the other parts, I've fastened some to the steering column and I found a spot on the fire wall next to the steering column for another. Wire ties, velcro, or double-sided 3M trim tape all work well.

I purchased my Painless Wiring Weatherproof, 7-circuit, Cirkit Boss from Geno's Garage three years ago or so. I finally decided to mount it in the cab in a stealth location...

beneath the drivers seat, on the outboard side, inside of the steel frame, towards the front. It's really stealth, easy to access etc... . only two very small button-head stainless steel cap-screws are visible (the other two are beneath the side plastic panel). I routed ALL the wires in the provided channel in the floor pan up to the "top" of the carpet (where the carpet ends on the firewall), coiling each length separately for future use. Each time I add an accessory I mark the location of the new fuse used (usually less than the provided 20 amp one) on the provided sketch on the installation instruction sheet. With the color of wire already charted to the fuse location on the sketch (by me), it makes tracing problems much, much simpler. :D

Stealth, simple and trick... what could be better?

I'd put it...

If I were mounting inside, I'd put it behind the knee bolster facing front so you can have easy access to the fuses. I got the weather proof one and mounted it above my brake master cylinder. Easy to get to and looks good.

I put mine (weatherproof) where Wiredawg put his. I am still doing some of the hookup though. I understand the cigar lighter is switch/run hot right? looks like a good place to tap the pink relay wire?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the tips.

I will try to get it in this weekend. I am going to check out the under seat location. I have a hard time getting up under the dash and there are plenty of wires under there now.

My 2001. 5 sure ain't got no room under the knee bolster in the cab...

I ended up putting mine (I have 2 of the waterproof harnesses) on top of the main fuse box under the hood, drivers side. I removed the fuse box lid, drilled holes in it to bolt the 2 Painless kits down.

Knee Bolster

Tom, Did you take the knee bolster off? And look behind it? My 2001. 5 had plenty of room to mount the painless 7 circuit relays. I am now starting to think that the new ISSOPRO turbo temp monitor should be mounted behind there as well. OverFuled

Mounted mine on the fuse box cover, like Tom. I used epoxy to hold the curcuit down instead of bolts (to avoid damage to relays and fuses below, which did happen and is why I used the epoxy).

Mine is under the PDC on the fender well. The box where all the big relays are. I went straight to battery and carried the pink wire inside to fuse box. That thing is a life saver.

Pink Wire

I think I ran the pink lead to the cigar lighter.

Also, I recommend you keep thepainless wiring diagram and lable what you connect each one to.

I got an add-a-circuit from Pep Boys and used it to tie the pink wire into the fuse box in the cab. The add-a-circuit is dirt cheap and makes for a very simple connection, no splicing.

Will the add a circuit work with the mini fuses? The cigar lighter is a mini and I have seen the add a line, but I thought they only worked with the standard size spade fuses. Else I can get into the cigar lighter line no problem.

My add a fuse was a direct plug in to the mini fuses in the fuse panel (from pep boys). It has two fuses piggybacking itself. One for the existing ciruit, one for the added circuit. I think this is much easier than going to the cigar lighter, IMO.

I'll check Pep Boys.

Auto Zone only had the piggy back large fuse size. However they were in the process of being "consolidated" with Discount Auto Parts.

I'll check again.

Thanks for the info,

Don't you just LOVE TDR!!!!!!!!!

ps

My TDR subscription was comming due in a couple of months, they send out a postcard, and the wife wrote out a check and mailed it in (could have done it on line). She knew how important TDR is!

Clarification on Pink Wire

Guys:

Just to clarify: I din't mean go to the cigar lighter with the pink wire; I meant run the pink wire to the cigar lighter fuse, on the non-powered side of the spade.

Painless circuit install

Mounted mine behind knee bolster on the metal cross brace just to the right. Plenty o' room and tapped the relay power to the 18 gauge wire thats on the steering column (black with orange tracer). Watch tho, theres two wires with this color and one only has key on (run)power.

I installed my fuse block that I got from Car Quest just like many of you did on the right side of the cross brace behind the knee bolster. I ran a hot wire from the main fuse in the power distribution box under the hood to a relay activated by the main switched wire in the column. It works very well. Here is a picture of my setup. http://www.pbase.com/image/6996772
