MDW: Welcome to the TDR, the best source for helpful answers on the many questions that arise when you are new to turbo-diesels. I agree with beginning by repairing the start-and-stumble and exhaust system problems. Next I would suggest guages, EGT(Exhaust Gas Temperature) and Boost. This will give you a means of monitoring the effect of any subsequent modifications and avoiding potential problems. Before any power mods, I would also suggest that you increase the intake air volume by changing to a K&N in the stock air box, a Scotty or a Psychotty. Use the search function in this forum to find all kinds of helpful material on these and other modifications. Good luck and Happy Bombing!

Cheers, Pete.

Can't begin to tell how excited I am about all of this help.
This next two weeks of waiting for the rally is going to be very hard.
I'm going to wait for the rally before I start Bombing, I want to check out the fuel line kits I'm hearing about (Jre & Aeroquip?)to repair the starting problem.
Also the 4" Jre exhaust to get rid of the cat problem.
I'm confused about air intake is there a Scotty and a Psychotty?
I'm thinking about the gauges, exhaust and air intake to start, what do ya think?

The other brands leave little items out, that you need to know where there at, how they work.

I'm learning this the hard way.

<font color=red>The difference between the Scotty Air and Psychotty Air is the housing. Scotty air is the K&N RE-0880 attached the to turbo hose. The psychotty air is a custom built housing designed by scott1. Here's a link to scott's website that show how the psycotty works. It draws cooler air from the windshield cowl. You can do a search on Psychotty Air to get some personal opinions. Also, I noticed that Scott1 will be in Temple for the rally so you can see it first-hand.

MDW, I suggest you forego the plate for now and install 275 or 300 injectors. While this is being done have a pump tech remove your pump and put it on a stand. The timing can be bumped up a little to compliment your new injectors and the fuel can be turned up to around 190-200cc of fuel being delivered. See how you like this, then if you want a torque plate you will have the injectors to support the extra pressure and your pump won't puke on you.
Of course you will need gauges first to monitor your EGTs. Hope this helps.

MDW Sounds like its already too late! This stuff isn't exactly free (except for the silencer ring) and it is very addicting...
Congradulations and welcome to TDR. You are taking the first steps down that long slippery slope called BOMBING!
