Good commercial for alcoa..

Hohn,

I am with you on Cold Stone Creamery. Its pretty good stuff too.

From the guys I use to work with in Texas they told me you cant get it outside of the state in stores. Apparenlty there is such as demand nationwide from Texans that relocated that their are service companies that actually deliver this stuff from Texas to your door. Kinda like a Ice Cream Hot shot service... . maybe their is a new use for the CTD. The CTD could haul a lot of ice cream!! :D :D

#1 Blue Bell (it's a Texas thing)

#2 Mayfields (it's a Tennessee thing)

I love 'em both, but can only get Blue Bell down here in TX. Not that that's a bad thing...

Costco's private label... it's the best made anywhere !!!!!

Made by Humboldt Creamery Ferndale Ca... . used to be called Humboldt Sweat cream at the local ice cream outlets by the scoop but the recipe was improved over that with higher butterfat content.

it's well over 16% butter fat and under whipped [less air for those that don't know what I'm saying] so it's very dense and great taste. . only Vanilla flavor available... also the have Bars that make Dove bars taste/look bad

don't know if they have it in the Mid West/back east Costco's because it's is very tuff to keep it frozen do to butterfat content. . it's shipped at -10* at all times or to the trash it goes . . they ship it with telltale temp. trackers to assure the delivery co don't have a temp issue

willyslover,

Thanks for the tip!

I was at Costco's last night and bought a 1 gallon "drum" of Kirklands vanilla Ice cream. It says "Super Premium" on the container. I could tell by it's weight it was gonna be good.

It's VERY GOOD ice cream. Very dense w/ a high butterfat content. It's the kind that you know every spoonful is getting you closer to a heart attack. :-laf I think it's better Ben & Jerrys or Haggen Daas. It's richer.

A strong buy.

BLUE BELL without a doubt!!

:D

Use to live in Brenham where it's all made. Something in the air I guess, because those are my best memories.

Schwans is our premium Ice Cream! LOL It's a midwest thing, or a southwest MN thing. :) Peppermint stick is a nice seasonal treat, but I think they discontinued that. I like their little Dinosaur Cups. Vanilla/Chocolate swirl with a bottom fudge layer and little fudge dinosaurs mixed in the ice cream. Or else their Apple Pie Ala Mode heated up in the microwave!

Or else we get HyVee Ice Cream pretty cheap! :D New York Vanilla is good, or Chocolate Marshmallow. Whatever's on sale. You can bet that Schwans isn't on sale though.

HyVee and some of the smaller stores have cartons of some of the more common premium stuff like Hagen Das and some of the others mentioned above, but for as often as I eat Ice Cream, anything works, and Schwans is definately a treat

Umpqua Ice Cream made right here in Roseburg Oregon at Umpqua Dairy. I had to go get a bowl after starting to read this old thread. Mountain blackbeery revel mmmm good. :p

Lessee... . my own chocolate ice cream (http://chixjeff.dnsalias.net/ice_cream.html)

After that, Oberweis. It's a local dairy in Aurora, IL. Beats everything else available locally, including Hagen Dazs and Ben & Jerry's.

I've tried Cold Stone Creamery, and frankly, I wasn't impressed. The vanilla was pretty good, but I got a nasty alcohol taste from the butter pecan.

BTW, the St. Louis outlet mentioned earlier is Ted Drewe's. It made Saveur mag's Top 12 ice cream shops.
