I am contemplating a place to install more gauges and have it look real professional and only a few ideas come to mind. I may have a connection with a guy who makes custom overhead consoles for the Ford trucks that sound to be really nice, wood... the whole works. Well I would like to explore a guage pod that would be overhead near the top of the windshield and mounted to the roof liner that will hold probably 8 standard sized gauges. I have no idea what cost will be at this point and if this is even completely possible. I would like to find out if anyone else has the same interest in doing this, with a handful I am sure we could get the manufacturing cost down substantially.

What would you do with 8? EGT, engine oil temp, trans oil temp, fuel pressure pre and post, rear end temp, turbo boost all digital. What else? Yup I'd be interested.

Cant ever have enough vital readings :D

Fuel Pressure

EGT

transmission

Ambient Air Temp

Charge Air Temp

Boost

Rear End Temp

Engine Oil Temp

The list could go on forever! Hmm... maybe he could incorporate the FMS box into the pod!

only 8?

FP

Boost

EGT pre

EGT post

Oil temp

Oil pressure

coolant temp

transmission temp

diff temps

volts

amps

ambient air

intake air

altimeter

compass (air guide)

inclinometer ?

hours

A/C pressures:eek:

Pilot blood in me somewhere... ;)

And while I'd love to HAVE all that--I rather do a transmission job than push those stinkin wires--well, almost.

Im with you Wade, how about Air Speed indicator? You know, for those near in flight feelings once you reach the high HP levels?? :D

Wade,

Why not Vacume and Intake Air Temp? Eight is not all the many gauges, and finding a good place to mount them is a issue, along with all the switches and indicator lights.

thread hijack. sorry. resume normal programming after this...

Intake air (temp) is on the list. Vacuum? oh, the pump generated vacuum. Sure, and steering system pressure too. How about a thermostat position sensor? I like airspeed too. That'll make headwinds easier to judge. OOOH OOH, how about a turbo tach?

Looks like a co-pilot is going to be necessary. :D

Wade, you forgot the Master Caution Advisory Light Center with engine out and fire lights and operator resetable Master Caution to advise of subsequent failures. Compressor speed, engine, diff, transfer case, and trans. chip detectors. You may as well throw in the Bromotrifuoromethane fire bottle, operator directed fire suppression system, with lighted fire bottle actuate handles to identify the fire location. Lastly, let's not forget the fuel quantity indication system for the main and auxiliary fuel tanks with digital read out in pounds. The icing on the cake would be the dash mounted AN/APR-39V2 radar detector with radar/weapons system identification and missle activity launch warning light. A dash mounted AN/ASN 128B Doppler/GPS Navigation system tied into a Command Instrument System with roll, attitude pitch, and power application indicators would be nice too. You could also consider the HF, LF, UHF, VHF AM & FM with guard freq, FM #1 & #2 communications console. This may take up a "little bit" of space in the back seat or pickup bed for the avionics support systems and a mortgage on your house to pay for. ;) :D

DROOL... I'd be happy just getting my fuel pressure and boost gauges in. I have them, but haven't had the TIME to put them in. Sad indeed.

I've got the radios. Recieve anything- AM, SSB, FM, CW, etc. Transmit on 160m, 75/80m, 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, 10m, 2m, 1. 25m, and 70cm with three radios and three antennas.

Not installed at the moment.

if you had a low range vacuum gauge, you could use it to moniter engine air filter restriction. and they turbo tach would be kinda neat [i can moniter that on the newer emd diesel engines at work :D]

Geeze while you guys are at it, what about a turn signal fluid temp guage?:p The forgotten fluid, sigh. You never know sitting at a long light trying to make a left, you might reach dangerous temp levels:D

You could always stack the 8 gauge pods. Lets see I alsways wanted to be an space pilot-how about body temp gauge, blood pressure, heartbeat, O2 levels and for the really high HP trucks-anal port pressure. ;)
