I bought a 98, 12 valve, not too long ago. It seems to have a few mods done on it, but I would realy like to talk to who ever owned it before me. I bought it from a used auto dealer in upper Michigan, he told me it came from Texas. But, he couldnt tell me who had owned it. Does anyone out there in TDR land have some way to help me track down the ones who owned it before me? Many thanks!

I live in Traverse City Michigan and try my best to keep a tab on local TDR or dodge diesel members. Tell us more(photo, auto, Xtended cab, Long or short bed)?

old reg card in my truck had previous owners name, I got on white pages.com got phone no, but dont know whether to call or not, the dealer I bought it from said privacy laws would not let me talk to pre owners ????? dont want to be a pain, but would like to know some history of the truck, (I'll also tell him how bad we both got took)

I would call him. I know I wouldn't mind if it were me. Although I wouldn't mention getting took, nothing to be gained from it.

There's no reason the dealer can't call him and ask him if he has a problem talking to you, though.

I don't believe there's any privacy law that prohibits you from contacting any of the previous owners, whether there was 1 or 10, it is all public record and you can track the previous ownership yourself if you want to go to that work

the previous owner may not want to talk to you but you aren't prohibited from trying, the dealership would be prohibited from sharing financing or persoanl information (SS#, credit score, etc. ) the previous owner may have had but we just bought a used truck from a dealership which we would not buy until we had a carfax, which the dealership supplied us with showing name & address of all of the previous owners

carfax will give you that easily for a small fee

The used car dealer I bought my truck from gave me the contact info of the previous (2nd) owner. I called him and found out he really didn't like the dealer so he took the wheel covers, trim rings, spare tire and floor mats out when he traded it in. I bought the parts and picked them up on the way home with the truck.

Well, thanks for the replys. The dealer my wife bought her TDI from did a carfax and it did not show any of the previous owners, thats why we didnt do that. I would like to talk to the previous owners to find out what mods, and other things have been done to the truck. Just for my peace-of-mind ,like the KDP, the 5th gear in the transmission, ect. As for the dealer, he did me right, (IMHO). I would for sure buy another truck from him, but he said he didnt know who had owned it, he may have bought it from an auction. ? Anyway, the truck is a 4x2, ext. cab, 5 spd, 354 gears, white on the top two thirds, and gray on the bottom third, 8ft box, sprayed bed liner,(do not know brand), small alum step under each door, home made bumper on rear(4in black iron pipe with 1/2in plate step) and had 210k on it when I bought it. The dealer said he had owned it for a couple of years, and used it to drive south for the winter, where he would look for rust free vehicles and then pull them north on a car hawler so he could sell them on his lot. I realy like the truck. I use it as a daily driver, and to pull our 35ft, Travel Supreme, 5iver. I work on the road, and we (wife and myself) live in the 5iver 99% of the year. My wife will help try to post a pic tomorrow. BTW, pulling the 5iver I get 11. 7 mpg, and the best Ive gotten empty is 23. 75 mpg. Thanks for the replys.

there are different options when a carfax is pulled, the one we got on the used truck for the grandson lists the name and location of the previous 7 owners on the 1997

Ford 1/2 Ton gasser, if you want the see the format of the carfax pull send me a pm and I'll send you a .pdf of the carfax

you can see if the vehicle has just ever had insurance claims (accidents/stolen) or you can request a more detailed report

I found the previous owner

I have talked to the previous owner about my truck. The only power mod he had done is a fuel plate. I called the shop that installed it and there records only gave the part #. I am wondering if anyone recognises the part #. I would like to know who the manufacturer is and the HP. Here is the part #CM831094-98 STAGE 1. Any help would be great. Thanks,Larry

Have you tired the Carfax website? You can enter the Vin number and see if it returns anything, before you decide to purchase the report.

I did not do a carfax, but I did find the previous owner. I called him and he told me where he had the truck worked on. He also told me all the things he had done to the truck, 4" exhost, 3pce manifold, alum. radiator, 5th gear fixed, and a fuel plate. He didnt remember the HP of the plate, but Rams-N-Hogs turned me on to the City Diesel people. Looks like I have a 70 hp fuel plate. Mistery solved! Thanks to all that helped me figure it out. Larry
