The shudder I have is more like something is binding up rather then a vibration. The more torque I put to it the worse it is. It feels like it is limiting the power some while it is doing this. I don't see how it could be the mount or the driveline angle as the mount is in perfect condition and the angle is the same as it is in my uncles truck, which is only a month older then mine and his works fine. Soon I need to take a fluid sample and see if it is crudding up bad. I keep coming back to the transmission itself. It was way out of spec on the mainshaft end play to start with and looked like it had hardly run, which makes me think it had this problem to start with and was pulled. Thanks for the continued comments guys. I'm not discounting what you all are saying as I have been thinking of all these things myself.

Update!

This is a really old topic but I thought I would update it. I am happy to report that I finally got things fixed quite some time ago but just never fallowed up on this thread. My shudder problems ended up being the driveline angles after all. It makes me sick to think of all the time and money I spent chasing this. To fix the problem I got an angle gauge and started experimenting with shimming the back of the trany and the carrier bearing. I think in the end I ended up with 1/8" under the rear trany mount and 3/8" between the carrier bearing and it's bracket. This got my two rear joints about equal and the front joint with about a . 5 angle. I noticed that my uncles truck also had a little shudder after all but was never near as bad as mine. I still have a slight problem with difficalty getting the trany into first/reverse after it is hot but I have gotten used to this and it's not so bad I can't live with it. I even upgraded to a South Bend 13" CON OFE and this didn't fix the shifting problem but it DID get rid of the annoying gear ratter that I had at idle and low coasting speeds. So in the end I'm pretty happy with things now. I'm now out transporting RV's with this truck so I am really glad I did this 6-speed and 13" clutch upgrade when I did even though at the time I really didn't need it that bad.

Thanks for the ideas but I'm pretty sure it's not the clutch as I have tried two clutches now and replaced the entire hydraulic system. Also, it only does this when it's good and hot. The clutch friction point is right where is should be at about mid peddal and not at all close to the floor like it would be if it was not fully disingaging from lack of travel. Maybe it's an alignment issue between the engine and trany but I doubt it.

Mine has done this since around 18K miles. I worried about it, changed the fluid with stock fluid, no change. Installed a SBC CON OFE and changed the fluid to Redline MTL, no change. Nothing makes it go away. According to Peter at South Bend I have enough travel in the clutch slave cylinder. I think it's the synchro friction material. I also have the second/third grind.

I've learned to live with it, I'm at 48K miles now and working on the ball joints.

The Cummins has needed NO work however (knock on wood).
