My 02 2WD 2500 is making a wierd sound when I let off the throttle and at random rpms. At first I thought it was my turbo spooling but when the hood is up you cant hear it at all. I changed my brakes to see if it was them since they were so bad. I could us some help on some ideas. Basically it sounds like a turbo whine when you let off the throttle but maybe more of a bearing whine. Pleas help!!:mad:

See if the noise disappears, you can run it for less than a min. you can also spin each bearing assy. see if you feel a bearing problem.

agree take belt off and check also look at your weep hole on water pump some can make noise and some dont. also if that all checks good. double check all areas your air path goes tubes, air hoses and going into manifold and manifold plate. I know you said more of a bearing sound but might as well check the air path. also if you have been using your A/C alot lately check your fan/clutch area I believe they too can leak. let us know good luck

Mine had a sound that I thought was a alt. bearing but turned out I some of the bolts that connect the fan clutch flang to the hub were loose.

The turbo has a little bit of play but isnt scraping any. I checked out all the bearings and the stationary pully next to the water pump does'nt spin freely at all so I am going to change it today. Thanks for the advice and I will let yall know if it works.

Yea the idler pulley doesnt spin freely at all. But I tried to find one at auto zone, advanced, o'reillys, napa, and no one had one. Does anyone know if its a dealer only part?

A problem I recently had with my truck was similar sounding to yours. I was convinced that I had a bad water pump or some bearing up on the front of the motor. I replace everything to no avail. I still had the whine. I was working on resealing my vacuum pump. I had taken off the tube from the intercooler, and the intake air horn. I found a blown gasket next to the intake heater grid. replaced gasket problem solved. I hope this helps.
I also have a thread on this problem if you know how to look it up. I don't know how to post the link.

i have that same problem its been doing it for sometime now and i found out what it was and maybe this will help you. my fan hub assembly went out and the bearing in it, is gone. Im trying to find a place to buy one or just the bearing if they sell one, that would be great to but i hope i can help you with my advice message me back and see if that is the problem.
